After downloading the mods I wanted to use. It said place the .esp into Fallout3\Data. The problem is I cant find it. I have unzipped the mod files, but I dont find the Data folder.

Do I create it the folder in My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 or is it supposed to be there when I load up the game?

The default for Windows XP is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data

Put the esp file in there.

Or if you're using Vista, stop using Vista. :P

Vista works perfectly fine once you've beaten it into submission with a sysadmin mallet and your machine specs a above the recommended requirements. :P

As for the Data folder, if you are unsure where you have installed Fallout 3 you can always right click it, enter properties and press "open file location" . That should take you to the root Fallout 3 folder in which a Data folder should be placed. This is is where you stick the .esps and the texture, mesh etc. folders. If you don't have a Data folder in your Fallout 3 root directory... ermm... you probably need to re-install. :D

Vista works just fine with games unless you're stupid enough to install a game in a protected folder like Program Files.

I have been installing my games in a \games subdirectory since DOS days (well actually by now it is its own dedicated harddisk), and there are zarroo problems placing or editing files that way.

When using Vista, DO NOT INSTALL GAMES IN PROGRAM FILES.

I don't know what you guys are bitching about with vista, mine works fine on ultra high detail, actually, ultra high wasn't good enough, so I maxed everything and tamperd with the files to click on high res water. My game runs perfectly also, you just, as he said, don't install your games into program files, or you can, but don't expect to do any modding.

Vista- OS(C:)/programfiles(x86)/bethesdasoftworks/fallout3/data

XP- C:/programfiles/bethesdasoftworks/fallout/fallout3/data

Just gotta ask, any one downing vista, do you actually HAVE a vista? Wait wait, let me extend that, that you use to play games on? Also, in defense of vista, you can't play crysis on ultra high on xp.

I use Vista x64. I hope I don't come across as slamming it -- it's just that Vista has some specific pitfalls to watch out for. Not installing games or anything else you want to edit in Program Files is one of them.
