AMD CPUs might become viable for top end gaming rigs.

First of all, here is an example:

AMD CPUs are going to do better on games that are multithreaded very well, and with the advent of the next gen consoles on the way, with the PS4 said to have an 8 core CPU, games in the future are going to be heavily multithreaded. So the days where 4 cores/4 threads is good enough is going to end in the near future.

Just thought I'd bring this up for anyone considering making a new gaming rig. I personally believe the FX 8350 will be more future proof than the I5 3570k, even though its at a disadvantage against the I5 3570k on lower threaded games. In the next generation, we're gonna get games that are console ports, and already created to be multithreaded very well, probably up to 8 threads.

This is why nobody should count AMD out of the market just yet.

Been there done that:

160 different CPUs tested, stock and OC.

Sure the 8350 may be more future proof. But you could also say that Xeon 1230v2 is more future proof than 8350, as its basically i7-3770 and costs the same as 3570k.

Interesting bit of info there. Its news to me. And yeah, that is a great deal on a good CPU, same socket and everything. Also I head you can overclock chips about 400mhz past turbo. I recall seeing a thread on another forums where someone OC'd a regular 15 2500 (non K) a little past turbo, about 4.2ghz.

This is correct. I have an i7 3770 nonK overclocked to 4.3Ghz which is about 500Mhz past the 3.8Ghz turboclock. This is on stock cooling using an Asrock nonK overclocking motherboard.

You are no more "future proof" buying AMD then Intel... AMD "eight cores" are no more eight cores then Intel i7's with hyperthreading...

the thing is that fx8350 costs 200 euros, and i7 3770 witch seems to be on the same league (~2 fps difference) costs 300 euros.

I believe it will be viable, especially sense they have the back end of the ps4, funding that is. Now that they have some leverage they could up their game to and make a badass cpu eh. the future seems brighter already :teehee:

Also the 8350 is worth everyone penny, i own one myself.

I have mine clocked around 4.3ghz with turbo  good enough clock for me.

That's reasonable, I just get kind of bugged that people belive the AMD 8 series CPU's are actual eight cores.

Yes, though I will agree with you the AMD CPU is a much better value.
