hownice
Even though there are good unique items such as YCS , Mercy, and All American, there are unique items which are way too useless. I hope to give reason to use such "Under Dogs" by improving them but rather than simply change their stats, I would like to grant hidden perk to give out more "Unique Feeling". I have some of ideas, but I would like to get more ideas from u folks and I need your help. So, which unique items do you think qualify for "Under Dogs" and what would be good perk idea for them? phoneyLogic
Hard to say. Most, if not all, unique items are stronger than their non-unique counterparts. Depends on what you compare. Just to illustrate the extremes: a Fat Man will always be stronger than a one handed pistol or sth. So what unique weapons we are talking about? gamefever
It seems to me that FNV falls into the classic trap of searching for better gear as many games do,In a game like this you have to realize that we are meant to go out and collect better gear. So what this means is our 357 is eventually outclassed by other weapons. The armor values help reinforce this. Honestly I think I know what your talking about but it's not just "uniques" it's all of the weapons. They just get so weak, and very quickly get outclassed and "useless".Pistols and SMG's seem to fall victim to this extremely quickly, I've found that by the time I'm level 15 and up I need to switch to using a heavy weapon to fight much of anything in the game. Particular offenders are the DeathClaws, Lakelurks, various mobs in Power Armor....I'm sure there's more that could go in this list. All the guns I've gotten attached to though are just worthless and the worst part is that getting mods for those guns is also worthless, by the time I can afford to mod out a 357 into its best form I need to be using a 44 or a hunting pistol. Against Deathclaws I need a 50 caliber sniper rifle aka antimaterail gun or even just a minigun....It's real hard to find enough rounds to feed those guns which I find makes the probelm of game balance worse. So the issue is already there in the base game with all guns, for the most part more than 90% of the guns just become useless and their mods also useless. Mods just cost too much becuase why get a mod when I can buy a better gun??? So the end result is I tend to not carry a pistol, and I'll often run around with a rocket luancher or grenade rifle in my back pocket to hanlde stuff that a marksmens rifle isn't any good for. I really hate it but when it takes a whole clip of .556 to down a mob in this game then clearly the gun isn't good any more. I tend to find that explosives are clearly the best weapons in the game given the perks that give them so much additional damage, there's a vanilla perk with 3 ranks that each rank applies 20% additional damage per rank, that makes Bloody mess and doctor perks childs play perks in my opinion. phoneyLogic
In my opinion the key in New Vegas is to use the right weapon for the right situation. It would be pointless to face a deathclaw with a .22 pistol (which I use a lot) or to deal with fiends using rocket launchers (which I only used against Legate Lanius so far). Good times.

For starting Old World Blues I spent 10000 caps in ammunition at a Great Khan vendor.http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Khan_armorer Litteraly tons of ammo. Had a weight of 990 after trading. ^^ Edited February 23, 2013 by tortured Tomato

Also, the right ammunition for the job. An SMG with hollow points would be terrible against armored humans, but it's an excellent cazador killer. No matter what I specialize in, I tend to diversify and carry a variety of weapons at all times. A rifle (gun or energy weapon) as a mainstay, supplemented by a pistol (often loaded with hollow points, for unarmored foes and critters) and grenades and mines (for groups of enemies and anything too tough to shoot to death).
