I can't for the life of me make the presets either load or save.

This is literally the sixth clean install of Skyrim I've done today. Basically spent all day researching answers and tried virtually every troubleshooting I could.

I reinstalled Skyrim once more about half an hour ago and reinstalled all the mods again since I didn't know ECE and racemenu can't be running at the same time.

I installed it once more and I simply can't get the racemenu presets to either load from the ones I downlaoded or save the one that I made.

I carefully checked the directory several times to make sure it's correct.

Apparantly I can't post images, but I made sure that the directory is correct Data\SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\Presets

On top of that, every time I save my own preset with the F5 button, it doesn't save my preset at all.

Please, I'm asking for your help. I followed every single mod's installation to a T, and also got rid of ece as well. I also tried every possible troubleshooting I could find on reddit, here, loverslab, google, etc.

I just don't understand why it's not working.

And...

Which version of SKSE64 are you using and which version of Racemenu are you using

for instance,

I am using SKSE64 2.0.17 and Racemenu v0.4.12 (and it works)

--------------

now...

When you open racemenu (presumably using console, which is how I get in for my player)

~ (open console)

showracemenu

And then hit ~ again to allow use of racemenu

And then open the presets section, A panel pops up on the left side, which a newbie would presume would contain a list of installed presets

Surprise surprise ... It Doesn't.

Click the load button (F9 I believe but could be wrong, I don't have it open right now).

Now, a crappy game console style file browser pops open. This is where you select your preset (to load)

You may know all this, but your post doesn't say so. So if you already do, my apologies, if not, when I began playing skyrim, that was my problem in a nutshell and it took me months to figure it out.

I'm not using a mod manager. I manually installed all the files.

Right now I'm using racemenu 0.4.16 and skse 2.0.19.

And yes I know all that. I wanted to include screenshots but it won't let me.

Basically I went to the preset tab, pressed f9, and nothing showed up.

When I would save my own preset with f5, it doesn't save at all.

I checked the directory multiple times and it's the right directory.

I also checked all the preset files and made sure they were all on the correct folder.

I'm not using a mod manager.

I'm just going to say, I really don't recommend running this way. Installing and running mods directly from your Data folder like that will eventually come back to bite you because you have no way of controlling overwrites and sooner or later you are going to end up with a corrupted Data folder and a broken game. Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO. My 2 cents, take it as you will.

That being said, where is Skyrim installed on your hard drive? If it's in the default, ProgramFiles(x86) location, it's possible you have a permissions issue and windows isn't letting you write files into your Data folder while Skyrim is running. Also, check to make sure your AV isn't blocking skyrim or skse.

Yeah I know. I also modded fo4 for a little over a year without the installer and got used to the directories and how they work and even though I'm brand new to skyrim, I noticed it wasn't all that different from it. And I also do that to just cut what I don't need and keep the file size a bit shorter.

But I did end up fixing the issue. Turned out I forgot to install the SKSE folder for the racemenu mod.

All of the presets are now working as they should.

Thanks for the help.
