gehn02
I'm in the process of re-formatting my hard-drive, and I've got everything saved over to an external HD, all my mods, folders, saves, etc. I've re-formatted once before, but I ended up having to re-install Oblivion & start from square one. Any help on preserving all my saves & whatnot when I transfer everything from the external HD, back to my desktop?? Instructions or link would be super helpful. Thank so much in advance. bben46
Copy over the data folder from the game Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data That will save all of your mods. Then copy the oblivion folder that id found in the Documents and settings sectionC:\Documents and settings\username\my documents\my games\OblivionThat will save your save games and ini file. Then when you are finished reformatting, reinstall the game, Start it and make a save. Don't bother with setting resolution or building a good character as you will get the old ones back. This sets some things that Oblivion needs. Then copy -do not move the files back to where they go. They will overwrite the defaults that Oblivion put in during the install. You will still have to reinstall the game as windows needs to have some entries in its registry before it will recognize it properly. Do not save the registry as that is one of the likely places for a virus to hide and my be the reason you are reformatting to begin with. If you are installing Vista, be sure to read the special vista installation instructions.
