OOC: I always wanted to play an RP as an escaped criminal in a futuristic setting.. And though it does remind me of The Chronicles of Riddick (so does my char) it is hopefully very different (as is my char).

IC:

"I am prisoner 03246; I am blind. It has been so long since I last have seen light that I wonder now if it even ever existed. Shadow is my only friend in a world of darkness. Blindness my only ally in a world of blind men.

"I have been place in this cell, within the confines of walls made of metals I should not be able to escape, but I will. It is not a matter of can or can't as the guards seem to belive, time is the only barrier. Time belongs to me.

"Next week I will leave, they do not know it yet, but I have already been scheduled for a 'parrole'. Insolence. They don't understand the darkness, they fear it. I embrace it. For me, only the darkness is real.

"Hah, they think time will stave the onslaught of what I have begun. They think that time in this cell will change my attitude, change my emotion, my beliefs. More insolence. They do not understand what the darkness calls forth, what I have summoned with it.. What I shall become with it. Ever since that day so long ago.

"I was once a slave, and though the lord and his wife cared for me well, made me comfortable, they also felt pity and shame on my behalf. I had become a slave because of my blindness. I could do little work except that which I was taught, and it was hard to learn new things. And so for that they gave me their sorrow, and it was then that I began to hate them.

"Eventually, I would hide from them so as not to have to listen to thier words of kindness.. Their witless kindness. They amplified my bad qualities and never mentioned the good. Such fools they were.

"Soon, I killed them. It was easily done, I had learned to use a knife from the kitchen master. I spent weeks planning, calculating, until the time was right. Then I struck them down and dissapeared from the estate. I was long gone by the time the police began the search. Brilliance.

"It took a while to get acustomed to doing things myself, but eventually I could shift and mingle with a crowd and go unnoticed. I began to steal to get by. The police were always after me, but it made no difference. The couldn't catch me.. I didn't understand.

"Perhaps a month after the murder, maybe sooner, I was sworn into a street gang. I aided them in thier acts of petty theift, and in exchange they taught me how to fight. They didn't understand. I absorbed all the knowledge they gave me, adding my own latent abilities to what they had learned. And soon, I had slain them all. Insolence.

"It was then, maybe a year after the original murder, that I began to 'see' again. It was not true sight, but it was more like a bat's sonar. I could sense when things were close, I could define shapes of things around me without touching them. My mind began to piece together this sonar-like sight into a picture. More like a chalkboard sketch then a portrait, but I realized I could 'see' 360 degrees around me. I could sense things from behind as easily as from the front.

"With my developing skills, especially my newfound combat prowess, I began to hold cities for ransom. I was on the most-wanted list more times then I could count, and I had police following every trail I left them. Eventually they caught me.

"They took every weapon they could find off of me. And I was well armed. But they missed a few. I corrected their mistake by leaving an score of men dead in a blood bath that lasted no more then 15 minutes, my speed was my greatest asset in battle. When they finnaly secured me, they bound me with everything they had and brought me here.

"Then I truely began to understand, my old life was over. The new one had not yet begun. The only barrier is time.

"I am Orius Nerrita, prisoner 03246. And I am on parrole."
