VincentAlliath
NOTE: I just spent the past forty-five minutes writing this. Read through the whole thing, please. It's not that hard. While I’ve been thinking about something that involves an Imperial Navy for a while, I’d like to credit two people for this particular part of how I worked this in and made it my work. For starters, I’d like to give credit to locke118 on these forums for sparking the “Saving Menien Goneld” idea. Now, as I said, I’ve been thinking about an Imperial Navy of some sort for a while. Some of you may have seen my idea for The Elder Scrolls V, which would, as an Elder Scrolls game, inevitably fails.I would like to give some credit, for sparking the idea, to TeamTI and their “Thorlak Island” mod. Don’t try and blame me for plagiarism. Their mod only sparked this particular incarnation of my idea, along with the other people in the “Menien Goneld” thread. ~~~~~ Now, in numbered bullets, I’ll explain the general premise of this idea so far… It will end up much more detailed, and I don’t plan on coming back to this list to update it. I’ll only update the paragraphed work. 1. You save Menien Goneld from the Oblivion Realm, and he leaves, meeting you outside Kvatch later. 2. You leave the Oblivion Gate, and begin to escort Martin away. Menien stops you at the camp at the bottom of Kvatch, and speaks to you. 3. Time passes. Menien goes to the Battle of Bruma, serving as a Kvatch warrior. 4. Time passes. When you finish the Main Quest, this Quest-line can resume. 5. It is suggested that you find Menien, to talk to him more, and you find out that he is receiving a payout from the Imperial Legion and the Kvatch Guard of 15,000 gold. He’s going to follow his dream of becoming a sailor. He tells you to meet him in Anvil. 6. You approach the Anvil docks, and Menien meets you there. He has bought a ship. He’s named it “The Hero of Kvatch” after you. He tells you that he needs a crew, but he doesn’t think it likely that anyone in Anvil will be “useful” (i.e. Not pirates). He wants your help in assembling a crew. 7. You go on a wild goose chase around Cyrodiil, finding wo/men that have potential. Nothing too extraordinary. 8. When you return to Anvil, you go on a boat ride with Menien, get attacked by Pirates, slay them, he finds it exhilarating, and you go back to Anvil. There is a consort of Imperial Legion at the docks. Menien tells you to meet him in the ship’s captain cabin that night and he’d tell you what happened. 9. You do so, and he tells you that the Imperial Legion have asked if he might like to be apart of their project, beginning to expand on the pitifully small current navy. So they’re building a small outpost and dock on an island not too far from Anvil. Too many ships in Anvil docks will cause unwanted attention. The island itself will seem to be a fishing village from far away, but will have its own town “guards” to protect against Pirates. 10. Three weeks later, the island is ready and the shacks that supposedly were built on it previously are now renovated (which is why it only took three weeks), and everything is ready. Menien takes you there, telling you how he’s pretty much an Admiral of the Imperial Fleet, and he has five ships to his name, not including the “Hero of Kvatch”. His wife now lives on the island, and the village is full of people. No buyable houses, please. ~~~~~ That’s all I’ve got for now. I’ll be expanding all of this with more detail over the next day and night, and then I’ll work on adding more to the ideas. So if you have ideas, contribute them! Please, do! For future reference, however, there will be more travel than this… So yeah. Get to the ideas. If you think that there needs to be a temple on the island, tell me. If you want the Daedra to attack. Tell me! Whatever ideas you have, I’ll look over them. Try and stay close to Lore, however. I’m attempting to make this as Lore-Neutral/-Friendly as I can…

zeralesaar
Quite a good idea, Vincent, I must say. If it weren't for your lore-fetish I'd try to recruit you for the Celestial Sea, but that's another story and another time. I like the way you adapted Saving Menien Goneld into Rebuilding the Imperial Navy. (And you said saving Menien would be pointless at first! ) His lack of real backstory makes him a considerably more useful NPC if modified this way, instead of the, oh, hundreds in the Vanilla game that sadly have to act as filler. The idea for an island is, eh, decent, although it's the Empire here. They own and control almost every major landmass in and near Tamriel. If the Empire is rebuilding the Navy, it doesn't really need to be a secret or covert operation. After all, the more honest traders (Though it seems there really aren't many in Cyrodiil these days) would finally have a force to champion their needs on the seas of Nirn. Also, instead of just building a small fleet and leaving it there, why not tack on a small "career" path that lets the player sign up for a tour of duty with the Navy as a peacekeeper? Maybe a conclusion option of weekly recurring raids as an Imperium-sanctioned privateer? Go and raid pirate bases, making the pillagers become the pillaged. This has much potential. VincentAlliath
Lore:Stirk Hahahaha... Best article ever... Anyway, no, sorry. I don't think that would be good. At any point in the future, that island might be used. I'm looking at something that won't be close enough to be named. Out in the places where there are the occasional island chains that Pirates occupy. Thanks for the suggestion! Zera, I didn't see your post earlier, and it is about to be answered below. But for now, an UPDATE! He’s named it “The Hero of Kvatch” after you. He tells you that he needs a crew, but he doesn’t think it likely that anyone in Anvil will be “useful” (i.e. Not pirates). 10. His wife now lives on the island, and the village is full of people. No buyable houses, please. 11. This is the point where the first Storyline ends. 1. Now the second Storyline begins. It is a Main Quest-line that will look like a bunch of optional quests, but will actually affect the Main Quest-line. It starts with Goblins and Trolls, and finishes with the first real attacks from the Pirates, Thieves, and Bandits. 2. So you get to walk around the island, talk to the locals, and deal with their problems. There is a Goblin Tribe at the north end of the island where there are some more shacks that can possibly be occupied by more farmers, and there is a group of Trolls on the west side of the island where the Legion wants to put its new docks, and they want to take the “cave” (it’ll appear as a mine) that the Trolls are in and fix it up, turning it into a proper, working mine. 3. You receive the first quest from Menien. It’s a simple point, fix, return quest. This is the quest that gives you all the arrows of who to see about the rest of the quests in this part of the Storyline. 4. The “first” (because really, it’s your choice) quest is about the Goblins. They’ve been raiding the nearby farms, and you’re needed to wipe them out. So you go out to their hideout, which you find to be a small shack. You enter, and find a huge hole in the ground (with a slope to walk down). You descend into the caverns fight a bunch of Goblins, and leave. The door to the island (from the shack) is blocked, however, by a Goblin Warlord who you have to kill before you can leave. 5. <The Quest above this one must be completed before this can be started.> The “second” quest is, again, about the Goblins. You are needed to raid their war camp and kill them all off. So you set off, and you kill them all off, and there you go! All the Goblins on the Island are dead! 6. The “third” quest is a Troll quest. Basically, you need to wipe out their leader. This time, two legion warriors dressed in the regular island armour come with you. Go through the mine and kill the Trolls. Simple. 7. At this point, you can return to Menien, but when you do return, he’s not there. There is one Warrior, who is looking for him. We’ll call him WarriorMan, because I don’t have a name for him. You run into the village, and the Blacksmith is standing near the Docks. You ask him what happened, and you find out that pirates are attacking in several different places. 8. Go to those places. Kill the Pirates. Find Menien. Menien rewards you. He then tells you how they need to stop the pirates. He asks you to go undercover to find out where the Pirates keep their ships docked, and how to get there and such. 9. I’ll continue later. I didn't want to make my previous post massive, which all of you should read, by the way. The one directly above this. It has updates to storyline. For starters, screw you Zera, you s'wit... It's not a fetish... =DNow. The bolded part of your post is what I am answering to... This fleet isn't exactly being left there. I was thinking of something like that, and it's definitely not going to be like every other Faction quest where you finish by obliterating everyone else. I hate those quests... =C I like having enemies.Anyway, there would be something like that, only there is the fact that this is going to be a massive piece for me. This Faction is not what it ends with. It will end up with a massive interwoven storyline, involving you subtly helping the pirates, although you don't know it. Then, depending on whether you're a good character or not, you have a multitude of paths to take, from ending up with Menien saving YOUR life, to becoming a Pirate king, et cetera. There'll be a few endings. And, of course, a Neutral ending for those who want to stay friends with Menien, but... yeah. I got nothing. I really need some more stuff.I'll get there eventually.
