Guest
Bumb bumpitty bumb bump bump. :( I don't care if the animation doesn't look 100% - let's face it: it rarely looks good even without targeting. Then there's Bethesda's reasoning that targeting in melee would be too powerful - well that's crap. If I have to spend my time running up to someone who's busy shooting me then why shouldn't I get that small advantage? I wouldn't mind if I have a chance to miss either. Is this even possible to mod? Because it seems to me to be a very wanted feature and I don't see how it shouldn't be possible. Again, I wouldn't mind if the animation doesn't show me clearly punching the guy in the left arm even though that's what I targeted. I'd just like the option and the effect. TGBlank
Problem with animation is that it IS the one that actually decides where the hit lands. The game does full collision box thingy with your weapon (that's why you tend to mystically miss against behemoths, somebody royally screwed their collision boxes). So even if you could aim at the left arm, if the weapon touches the torso before it, the hit will be in the torso. I'm also almost sure that the melee weapons not getting full vats is hardcoded.

Then how do you explain the fact that some punches just flail through the air but it still registers as a hit? If the game can decide that your fist connected, regardless of how the animation looks then I don't see how it shouldn't be able to decide which body part it connects with. Guest
So it's possible but I can't figure out if it's actually just a ranged weapon that he modified heavily.
Cipscis
I'd assume that it is, as I personally don't know of any other way in which this might be possible, and the sword always uses the same attack animation, unlike a regular melee weapon. Did i mentioned that collision boxes where shittily made?. They're (mostly) bigger than your target, that's for sure. Take something like a power fist and do 1 hit in vats, open vats again, you'll see that your hit landed "somewhere". It's not general damage. Furthermore, if you use it from a slightly raised position, as long as vats doesn't mystically teleport you, you'll notice that none of your hits goes to the legs
