Run separate F04 on my laptop

Different Fo4 setups on different rigs

I wish to play Fallout 4 on a laptop I now have. I also have a desktop computer where I have historically played Fo4 in previous years. These two rigs, desktop vs laptop, have different graphic cards etc so I wish to run the games for them with:

1) different graphic settings

2) different sets of mods

3) different play throughs

4) with different characters

My desktop game has huge settlements I don't want to mess up by deleting mods and I don't want my laptop choking from running too many graphic replacements.

Also I don't want the various steam and Fo4 store changes to block my laptop play throughs. The laptop won't always be connected to the internet or if it is might be on a metered service where I might pay for IMHO unneeded game-store data.

Can someone direct me to or advise how to set this up.

I'm suspecting I'll needed to copy Fo4 into a different directory and/or use the Nexus Mod Manager.

Just copy the FO4 folder in the "steam/common" (or whatever) folder.

Rename the one that you are currently not using to something else (that way Steam thinks "oh there is one install of FO4, everything is fine ...")

Do the same for the folder that contains you savegame data.

Or that is what I would try to do ...

BEFORE YOU MESS AROUND: BACKUP YOUR STUFF!!!!!

Or create a second steam account for you laptop and buy the game there. (Easier but more expensive)

You don't need to be connected to the internet to be able to play FO4.

It just needs to connect one time so that Steam can verify that you actually own the game, or something like that.

After that, you can run steam in "offline mode" (or just disconnect your device from the network).
