Deleted3608344User
Skyrim is supposedly set two hundred years after Oblivion, but the technology has not improved, in fact, in order to go from medieval plate armour to rustic stuff that doesn't cover the entire body, it must have gone backwards! So please could somebody do a gigantic overhaul to fix this? I know it's a big ask, but I would love to play the very first Elder Scrolls(Let alone RPG) in the renaissance. Good luck! Strokend
Well, keep in mind, this isn't Earth we're talking about. Tamriel is on an entirely different world, one that has two moons. As human-like as these people are, they don't necessarily follow "Humans only" evolution and growth of society. A couple of centuries might not be enough to change a whole lot. On the other hand, it could mean a quicker growth. Rather than just the race of man, there are three other races: Elves, Khajiit, and Argonian. Elves bring in their magic, Argonian their customs, and Khajiit... Well, Khajiit are just as varied as Man, but have a connection to the moons (albeit one that severs itself immediately after birth). With the combined ways of thinking between them all, they could have a quicker growth or just a different form of growth compared to Earthlings. Are you saying you want to see an abandoning of magic to go full into a Scientific Revolution, a growth of them together, or a growth of Science while keeping magic where it is? Are you saying you want to see an abandoning of magic to go full into a Scientific Revolution, a growth of them together, or a growth of Science while keeping magic where it is? An advance on both fronts, and of course, their scientific growth won't be the same as it is on Earth, but they would still try to do the same things. I mean, the only reason why science progressed is to ease peoples lives; the car, the calculator, the toilet are all perfect examples. All the houses are too small, people would realize this, and someone would come up with a better design. Anyway, an army populated with soldiers armed with arquebuses that can shoot from far away is much better than an army armed with bows or crossbows. The advances don't have to be entirely scientific either, they could be half-and-half, such as a rapier with an enchantment, or a shower, powered by the combination of ice spells falling through fire ones. Also, who's to say that further research on the Dwemer didn't reveal these secrets. The possibilities are endless. So why not?
AlienSensei
Don't forget the fall of the Roman empire. The romans were more advanced than far into the 1400's, and in politics and organization they more civilized than the 1700's. I know lore isn't going forward in the elder scrolls universe, so it could as well be that the empire falled on hard times, or that "technology" in skyrim is much worse than in cyrodil.(Made a thread about this, which can be found here: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/924273-the-future-of-tamriel-and-nirn/)
