Kellao
Im haveing a bit of trouble with the computer. the day I got fallout 3 the game was running like a dream (25th of december) but latley it has been playing miserablly bad...like its extrodinarily laggy. laggy too a point where you dont even want to play anymore. I did everything I could I closed a few startup programs. I lowered everything down to 1 or 2 texture quality is on small.made sure nothing else was running in the background...everything. before My computer was able to play a medium texture game and now it can barley play on small the lagginess is just simply unbearable. this pc is only a year old too...no excuse for it to be like this. I scanned for viruses Norton found 1 tracking cookie I scanned a second time found nothing. I even turned off Live to see if that was the problem and still nothing...its driving me crazy I mean how could something that was playing so well be suddenly playing like a sack of sh*t? Its really disgusting the lows I had to go to just to play damn game...I mean before I was able to run smoothly and have Yahoo instant messenger in the background to alert me when a certain friend of mine gets on who cant contact me any other way and its just really really really p*ssing me off...to no end. I cant take this anymore is there anythign I can do to improve performance? could it be I have too many files on the pc? is my graphics card broken? please any help would be so good as to how to make sure this thing can perform like it did about a week ago. jansonmercenary
Have you tried re-installing the game? And are you using any mods?

jaosals42
Don't take my word for it, but possibly a piece of hardware in the computer could be damaged. This past summer, I went for three months without a well-functioning computer ever since I had accidentally dropped a heavy book on the case. For months the computer had problems and was almost unusable until we finally realized after many tests and hardware replacement that it was our Asus P5K motherboard that had been damaged. Ever since we purchased a new motherboard (Which ironically I don't remember what it is), the computer has performed flawlessly.
bben46
If you do decide to take it in to be repaired, be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose. Geek Squad, and many other repair places like to reformat your hard drive whether it needs to be or not. The noise could be a simple as a bad fan or as bad as a failing hard drive or power supply. Check your fans to make sure they are all running. Run the disk clean up routine and the disk defrag before taking it to be repaired. If you find it's just a fan, they are cheap and easy to put in. Be sure to get the right voltage though. Case fans are the easiest to replace. Power supply fans and CPU fans the most difficult. If you get the noise fixed, run an anti spyware program and an antivirus to clean it out. spyware can really slow things down. and viruses can send all of your information and passwords to a hacker somewhere who can use any credit card and bank account numbers to rob you.
