CTD after birthscene

Hello all,

I couldn't find any help on this issue other then threads from a few years back with suggestions to update to patch 1.7 and/or using the multi-core fix.

So here's my issue.... I was running a heavily modded game of FO3 and got a lot of mods working together just fine, when I decided to start a new game (yet again).

I just got born, hear myself crying, listen to dad rambling about, seeing what I´m going to look like in a few years (hideous), and see my little self dragged out of the room, because mom is not feeling to good. NOW... as soon as the "1 year later"-screen fades away and I see dad playing in MY pen, POOF, the game freezes. Every single time :\

So I started removing some mods, to see what mod was causing the issue. Took me to long, so I disabled all mods till I just had Fallout3.esm and the 5 DLC's active. But the game still crashes at the very same point. Funny thing though (which is actualy not funny).. when I activate the mod FWE (Fallout Wanderers Edition), and choose the alternate beginning at the end of the birthscene, I wake up in a shack and can happily continue my journey through the Wasteland. But ofcourse, I want to run through the Vault and escape, as the original game intended..

So I'm thinking a file or entry, thats needed in the second original scene, got deleted/renamed, but I've got no clue how to find out which one.. (Or if that´s even the problem)

I would really prefer not having to reinstall the game, cause that would take me a couple of days, without knowing for sure that it won´t happen again, or what's causing it!

- I played a heavily modded game before, so I know how to install/uninstall/etc

- my computer is well up to the task of running FO3

- it's patched to v1.7

- I'm using the multi-core fix (or at least got the lines in my Fallout.ini)

- it's not an archive invalidation issue

Hoping someone can provide a possible cure for me growing up (in the vault)

Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem after I had to reinstall the game after having my hard drive wiped and the OS reinstalled. I started a new game with none of the DLCs active.

I played through to the the birthday party and made a hard save. I exited and activated the DLCs and the game has been playing fairly well since.

Thnx for the reply M48A5 !

That sounds like quite an undertaking, which I was hoping to avoid :P

I just tried starting the game again with just the DLC's .. And it seems that when I disable Archive Invalidation (in FOMM), the issue doesn't occur! Very odd..

Don't have time to try this right now, but I'm gonna try reactivating everything after the 1-yr-old-scene, and see if I can play safely from there
