Jaxom
I want to try and make a new type of sword but can't figure out how to make a new picture for it.
Ragnor Stormcloud
What you would need to do that is get 3DSMax. The only problem is that it costs a few thousand dollars. So I'd recommend just trying to re-skin a sword. Ask someone else about how to do that, because that's foreign territory to me.
Peregrine
1) buy 3dsmax, download the export plugin. a few thousand $$$$ or about $500 if you're a student and aren't selling your work. only really a good idea if you have any long term interest in modeling, but if you are its definitely worth it.2) get a cheap/free modeling program, make the item, ask someone to convert to 3dsmax format and export it for you. Blender is supposed to be good, and its completely free. 3) retexture an existing model, using any 2d paint program. of course if you do this you're going to be really limited in what you can do, since you can't change the actual shape of the model4) be very very nice to one of us who can model stuff and get it done for you. cmac
How do you make a new skin for an existing weapon? I want to make an ebony shortsword the color of jade- light green- but I have no idea how to do this. What program do I need? Can I use Adobe Photoshop 4? If so, how do I get the model and icon into the program?
Guest
 I just answered a similar question, so I'll repost that response with changes as necessary... If you have a NIF mesh ripper such as NIF Texture, you can open the file and find which texture is associated with the mesh you're using (something along the lines of TX_texturename.bmp or .dds). Open that file in a paint program, such as Paint Shop Pro. Retexture the image file as you see fit, then save it with a similar, but different, file name (such as Tx_new_texturename.bmp or .dds). Repeat this process for every texture you want to touch up. Now, going back to the mesh file you have open. Replace the original texture filename(s) with the one(s) you just created (depending on which program you're using, you may have to use the exact number of characters for the filename as the original). Save the mesh with a new, unique name (such as w_bfg9000.nif). Only thing left to do is create a new object with the mesh you just created in TESCS and place it wherever you like. Works like a charm!
