ASUS HDAV Xonar the only HDMI soundcard

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone what do you think of the Xonar series sound cards from Asus, i mean WOOOWW, the specifications look really promising, it even allows video-sound pass through, which is very unique to this sound card alone. Creative has nothing compared to this.

I'm a gonna turn my pc into a htpc-gaming rig jooooyy!!

I dont really get it, but dont all the modern GPU's already have the same capabilities for HDMI sound? Meaning that if you dont use the 3,5mm jacks from your soundcard, its just useless extra card in your PC.

By modern GPU's I mean HD5000+ and GTX400+.

For HDMI, Dolby Digital Live or DTS Interactive is a pointless feature.
DDL or DTSI is necessary to send surround sound over S/PDIF which
supports only stereo PCM, DD and DTS. HDMI supports multichannel LPCM,
so surround sound does not need to be compressed to DD or DTS.

HDMI sound card is an obsolete product, that came when there was no
graphics card supporting HD audio bitstreaming/PAP. Now every latest GPU
supports HD audio bitstreaming...

PS: Im using Xonar DG with Beyerdynamic DT-770 pro (80ohm) and Xonar D1 with Behringer MS40 speakers.

Yes, I have 2 high-end PCs :cool:

Yes but very limited, even the gpu i have has this functionality, but i would like to do is hook up the pc directly to my tv, and the soundcard to the receiver, the limitations video cards have is it doesn't recognize HD receivers as a tv so turning my pc into a HTpc is out of the question. Now with this Awesome sound card it has capabilities just like a video card, but it only does video and sound. Not to mention much, much higher quality then any video card or on-board sound you may have.

it rivals anything on the market today.

Uhh.... You do understand that the sound quality doesnt change from onboard if you transfer the sound digitally, right?

The sound that is output via the HDMI is the same no matter what device
its coming from. It sends a purely digital signal to your receiver and
all the processing of the sound is done externally so it doesn't matter
if its coming from your motherboard, sound card, or video card.

HDMI/optical = digital transfer

EDIT: http://www.amazon.ca/Xonar-Channels-Interface-Sound-XONAR/dp/B002VAD716/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1362254030&sr=1-1
Use optical to connect your PC to the receiver... If the onboard sound doesnt have optical, buy a cheap card that has it. Same audio quality as the 150$ crap.

My setup:
PC(video)-->HDMI-->telly
PC(audio)-->3,5mm-->MS40
Telly(audio)-->optical-->MS40

If I watch TV, the TV uses optical to transfer the sound to MS40. If I use PC, the 3,5mm transfers the sound to the MS40.

Unfortunately i was ripped off, the receiver i have doesn't have optical in, most don't if you're not looking for that feature in general. Although it has up scaling and all the bells and whistle any receiver may have, and its a done deal. i rather have convenience then using optical. Seriously optical is limited, i would like to have full 7.1 any ways. Toslink is only 5.1 compared to hdmi, and hdmi sounds allot better anyways.

Toslink lol, i hope one day they will faze it out, HDMI is far Superior to anything else.

The hdmi out was the biggest seller to me, becuase i could output my radeon to the tv and have it do multi display, and use the tv for games and video for a change without having to switch between the two.

Hdmi on the radeons isn't all that great, they only output 2.1 16bit audio. I always wanted to trueHD anyways.

Plus the receiver didn't recognize it anyways, so its a double win

Radeon to tv

Pioneer hooked via Xonar, see where I'm getting at :biggrin: finally will be able to push my 1000Watt Pioneer - Boston Acoustic 7.1 speaker system to its limit.
