darkdill
I'm trying to use a theme from Valkyrie Profile as a replacement theme for the main menu, but when I convert it from MP3 to xvm format, it comes out way too quiet. The tune I'm looking to convert is here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHer7i3AUyU">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHer7i3AUyU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"> I first did a Youtube-to-mp3 conversion (see below), and then used Skyrim Audio Converter for the conversion to xvm, but as I said before, it came out way too quiet. I have no idea why it came out in such a way, so I'm hoping someone with some more experience could help me. This link is a conversion of the above video into an MP3 format, in case you want to experiment.Valkyrie Profile Soundtrack - Disc 1 - 01 Epic Poem to a Sacred Death If someone could help, or maybe even provide a properly-made xvm version of the above track, I'd appreciate it. Simple instruction on what I could do, however, would also suffice.
steve40
The volume of the mp3 seems OK to me. Try converting the mp3 to WAV then use "xWMAEncode.exe" to convert it to WMA. Edited March 3, 2013 by steve40

And I know the MP3's volume is fine; it's when I convert it to a xvm file that it becomes too quiet in-game.
steve40
xvm? As far as I know, Skyrim uses ".xwm" files for music, which are the xWMA format  So convert your mp3 to ".wav" (can be done easily with iTunes for example) then use xWMAEncode.exe to convert from ".wav" to ".xma." I've never had any sound volume issues when doing it that way.
darkdill
Okay, I tried that and the main menu music is STILL super quiet. Guess it's not a problem with the conversion method; it's a problem with the game. The thing is, in-game, my music is at maximum and plays at a proper volume. Also, when the Bethesda Logo plays, the volume is loud and fine. It's just the main menu that I can't hear anything. LargeStyle
Skyrim is simply a quiet game. I have to turn my AV receiver up considerably more than normal for it to sound normal! Yet another area that Bethesda could / should improve upon. As for converting audio, you should in no way have a change in volume when changing to another format. You may lose a bit of quality as Bethesda music format is rather heavily compressed (yet another fail) but that'll be the only difference.
