Noob needs help

Hey all

 

Need a bit of help here.

 

Fallout 4 is freshly installed.

Vortex is frehsly iinstalled.

 

I downloaded couple mods over Vortex.

 

- They show up as "Downloads" under Download section.

- I press Install

- They show up under "Mods" where i Enable them

- They do NOT show up under "Plugins"...?

 

1. How do i know a mod is running?? (it is not allways that clear...)

2. Should they not show up under "Plugins" in Vortex?

3. Should they show up under "Mods" ingame? Mine do not !

4. I also tryed the Achievment mod, but i still get the notice ingame that i won't get achievements because of mods.

5. in the dashboard i see "Fallout 4, 5 active mod"

 

6. Am i supposed to start the game through Vortex, Steam, or some other way?

While many mods come with ESP/ESM/ESL plugins, not all mods do. Texture replacer mods are a notable example of mods that do not have an ESP/ESM/ESL plugin. For example, I have 279 mods installed and enabled for Skyrim SE, but only 175 plugins.

 

The "plugin" view in Vortex shows all the ESP/ESM/ESL plugins in your data folder.

 

"Mods" ingame is not a good indicator of what mods (i.e. not necessarily plugins) you have installed and running.

 

There is no general answer to your question of "how do I know a mod is running" other than: if the mod is installed, enabled, and deployed then it should have been applied to the game. Whether the mod is working as expected depends on the mod itself, your other mods etc., but as far as Vortex installation is concerned enabling and deploying is all that needs to be done.

 

 

Regarding the achievements mod: If you are talking about this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15639/?tab=description, please note that that one needs to be installed manually following the steps outlined in the description. As is, the files from the download need to go into your FO4 root folder.

"How do I know if it's working?

You'll get no achievement warnings, and the [M] will won't appear in the saves menu (already modded saves will need to be re-saved for [M] to disappear), alternatively you can check the log just to be sure."

One thing missing from your list of steps is "Deploy." @BigBizkit mentioned it in the middle of his post, but I wanted to make sure that you caught it because I think it is the problem. After you Install, Enable, you must Deploy on the Mods page in Vortex. This tells Vortex to put the plugin and other needed files into the game location so they can be used. If the mod has a plugin, and you are not seeing them in the Plugins window, try Deploy and see if it helps.

 

To determine if a particular mod has a plugin or not, go to the mod page in Nexus and look in Files > Main Files > Preview File Contents. You can see if there is a .esp/.esm/.esl there.

 

"Mods in game" is theoretically the same as the Plugins window, so if they are not showing up in Plugins I would not expect them to show up in Mods in game. As @BigBizkit said, that is not a reliable place to check, and if using Vortex you should never make changes to Mods in game. Allow Vortex to manage that for you.

 

After Deploy, once you see the plugins in the Plugin window, make sure the plugins have been sorted. If there is a ? rather than a number for that plugin in the Load Order column, that means they haven't been sorted yet.

My achievement mod was a different one. Deleted this and tryed yours, manually installed it and that worked.

 

Seems like my achiement mod and a inventorysorting mod did not work, and still don't. The rest (better map etc.) seem to work. At least i seem to be heading in the right direction.

I will check the "deployment" status tonight. But i think i have done that...
