lauratheninja
Im thinking about buying an alienware ALX X-58 PC with a Dual 2GB GDDR5 ATI® Radeon® HD 4870 X2 with CrossFireX™ and Quad GPU Technology graphics card or a Dual 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280 (I cant decide , I hear the nvida card is better for opened GL ) If anyone here owns an alienware pc, could you tell me if they ar worth buying ? koji042
If you can afford it, go for the dual Radeon 4870 X2 cards (they're the best cards on the market atm). A single 4870 X2 is basically two Radeon 4870s put together so with two of them in Crossfire, that amounts to four GPUs... seriously a heck load of power to have. I'm envious right now. xD Hope that helps. ^_^ btw, what processor are you planning to buy with the computer?

koji042
You need the 1200 Watt Power Supply. Those things need a lot of power.

evilkoal
you would be better off building your own system, alienware is crap, and way too expensive for what it has in it.
maYuYang
you would be better off building your own system, alienware is crap, and way too expensive for what it has in it. Wanted to suggest the same, look for a PC store and pick the components you'd like. In good stores, the staff will advise you which should be used with specific things. the Radeon HD 4870 is quite better than it's current NVidia counterpart. Also I read that Crossfire works much better(less buggier) than SLI
Syntax1985
alienware is so over priced now-a-days considering that u can get better systems cheaper without the logo'd box. The new Dell XPS wipes the floor with the new alienware compe, and its @£800 cheaper to boot. Good sites to look at = http://www.cclonline.com/ Paticulary good if you own your own windows copie, as the price range on max spec comps without an OS is unbeatable.--- http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ Just gobsmacking @ spec vs price compared to alienware. and then of course theres the Dell XPS. each of those sites features systems with better specs then alienware, but alot cheaper. u just miss out on the free t-shirt, the alienware patternted case, a bag, a mouse mat and a hat, which to be honest, when im considering spending this much on a comp, are the least things in the world i would give a crap about for them to whack an extra £1000 on top..... Syntax1985
just another comment, go with the ati cards. while at a side by side comparision most review websites will show simular performances, i would go AI purely for the frequent patches and updates to improve quality and performance with the latest games as they come out, check each cards websites for driver releases and youll see what i mean. This current pc im using has 4x 9800GTX nvidea cards, i upgraded from having 2. honestly the difference is as pointless as owning a ferrai to drive up your road and back once a week. there is NOTHING i can find software wise that will even test the dual, let alone 4 of them. waste of money from my end. personally, i think 1 ati HD 4850 would be enough to run anyting out at the moment, you could go with 2 as a safe bet but no need to even consider anythign more.
