Slow download speed troubleshooting

So after my initial attempt to get back into modding Bethesda games, I quickly found my speed capped at 200kb/s on a free membership, decided to pitch in the $3 or so to unlock my download rate which worked for smaller files. However.. upon trying to download larger files (300MB+) my download speed shot back down to 200kb/s and less even.

Country: US, California

Internet Service Provider (ISP): CalDSL

Download tests:

  • Amsterdam: 80-200kb/s
  • Prague: 80-200kb/s
  • LA: 10MB/s 250kb/s
  • Chicago: 300kb/s
  • Miami: 200kb/s
  • Singapore: 180kb/s

In conclusion, the download rate on files above a certain size have wildly unreliable and similarly slow download speeds regardless of server, while smaller files download without issue, using my full bandwidth.

Thanks for providing the info.

From what I can see, the speed is very similar for all servers. This generally means that there is a "weak link" somewhere between your PC and our servers (as it happens to all servers it's probably closer along the chain to your PC).

Do you have access to a VPN or alternative connection (such as a mobile hotspot) to see if that makes any difference to the speed?

hey, I have the exact same problem! just bought premium membership to raise up download speed and while smaller files were downloading without any issues, the large files were capped at around 10-70kb/s from European servers and around 300kb/s from American. I've found temporary solution via turning VPN on, now I can download with more or less accepable speed (around 1 mb/s) but honestly it still sucks cause I paid for unlimited speed and I got this turtle crawl instead. I'm wondering what causes this thing and how to fix it as well.

I tried swapping my location around using Windscribe VPN, however it made no change to the download speeds. It's strange too because it shows anywhere from 1-2MB/s (My ISP's max) on the initial startup, but quickly dips down to 200kb/s.

This is incredibly weird considering you're in the same state as our LA server. So you're closeby relative to other users in the US.

It unfortunately sounds like either an ISP issue or bad wiring somewhere between your home and our servers.

Problem is still there. I am trying to download large HQ sound archives (3.5GB each) and I'm capped at 1 MB/s, so my premium membership doesn't make any difference. Please help me!

Please don't hijack someone else's post. I'd be happy to take a look at your issue too, but I'll need you to follow the troubleshooting here: https://help.nexusmods.com/article/92-im-having-download-issues-what-can-i-do
