Lakeview Manor Steward Bug: Can't seem to fix

Unofficial Hearthfire Bugfix Thread on STEAM:

I have done everything that is expected of me that has been recommended in the above thread to resolve the problem with the Lakeview Manor Steward not responding appropriately: And still I cannot get Lydia to purchase a horse, a carriage, cow, chicken or that stupid Bard. The only mod I haven’t deleted to see if that is the problem is SkyTest: Realistic animals…… I have deleted UFO and Lakeview Manor Extended as well.
When you engage Lydia in conversation there is no option to ask her to purchase any of the above items. The only intercourse there is relates to her being your companion. Yet, she has accepted her position as the Lakeview Manor Steward and she won't follow you. I don't suppose there is a console command that would allow me to spawn those things on my own is there?!? THanks.

Sad to say I would get her to follow you, kill her and use the console command to resurrect her, that ussually clears her of most bugs in vanilla. I have notived UFO has caused a few issues with followers, which may not go away even if you remove the mod. So I recomend kill the strumpet and bringing her back.

If you don't play on PC, I am not sure what to tell you.

I had the same problem, Lydia wasn't giving me any steward dialog options. I tried telling Lydia that it was time to part ways, but then I couldn't find her in Whiterun. I went back a save, tried killing and reviving her with console commands, and still got the same behavior. So I told her it was time to part ways again and this time I immediately asked her to follow me (before she wandered off and I lost her again). Now she works fine as both steward and follower.

I'm having a similar problem but, no matter what I do, I cannot "kill" any of my Stewards. I've even tried the console command for kill to no effect. None of them will "Follow me" either. :(

Guess my only option is to start over and make sure I choose someone different from my Housecarl as my Steward.

I have the same situation, and in case anyone was wondering I just fixed the bug a while ago through several digging into the wiki.

In my situation, yes, I can't kill them either. They were stuck as my 'follower', despite not actually following me, and they were stuck doing their steward stuff.

These are what I did:

1. Make a text file in your data folder containing these, then name it 'steward' without the quotes (and without the bracketed description, these are for the explanation why I included them)

StopCombat
RemoveFromAllFactions
SetRelationShipRank Player 4
AddToFaction 0005A1A4 4 (this is to set them as your ally)
AddToFaction 0005C84D 4 (this is to set them as your potential follower)
AddToFaction 000a2c8d 4 (this is to set them as your housecarl)
AddToFaction 00019809 4 (this is to set them as your potential spouse)
AddToFaction 0002816e 4 (this is to set them into whatever hold faction they're in. This is for The Pale (Heljarchen Hall), for Falkreath its 00028170 and for Morthal it's 0002816D)
SetPlayerTeamMate 1
setav confidence 4 (this is so that they don't cower in battles)

2. Dismiss your steward using this mod (download it first, of course) http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34515//?

3. After dismissing, you should notice that your ex-steward still isn't responding. Go to console mode, click your ex-steward and type on console 'bat steward' without the quotes

4. Your ex-steward is now ready for recruit. Make them follow you, and around your hall of choice, make them as your steward of that place

5. Done!

This was just my own discovery, and may not work for all of you. I did this to my housecarl from The Pale who was the steward on Heljarchen hall.

Basically, the text file that was made is for resetting the NPC in question.

Sorry if I'm necro'ing this thread.

Would also like to necro and inform anyone who comes across this bug that Balakadut's bat file solution does fix it, but you don't need to install the mod he listed you can un-steward? them via console:

Console commands to dismiss the steward of Lakeview Manor in Falkreath Hold:

SetConsoleScopeQuest BYOHHouseBuilding
EmptyRefAlias House1Steward
SetPapyrusQuestVar BYOHHouseFalkreath bHaveSteward False

Console commands to dismiss the steward of Windstad Manor in Hjaalmarch:
SetConsoleScopeQuest BYOHHouseBuilding
EmptyRefAlias House2Steward
SetPapyrusQuestVar BYOHHouseHjaalmarch bHaveSteward False

Console commands to dismiss the steward of Heljarchen Hall in the Pale:
SetConsoleScopeQuest BYOHHouseBuilding
EmptyRefAlias House3Steward
SetPapyrusQuestVar BYOHHousePale bHaveSteward False
