ziitch
Oi. The fact that this could have been a better game if they had just kept it offline and true to the core by enabling landscape editing saddens me. I've played all previous four to an extent, but this just reeks of meddling that the developer didn't need to get into. Guess I'll just have to wait for a good spiritual successor to come along. :(
Vagrant0
One explanation I heard is that one of the main, and only reasons for the Always Online setup was so that EA wouldn't have to compete with modders for game additions. Unlike previous games where players only needed to have the same additions installed, you are now locked to only be able to use ones which have been released (and sold) by EA. The reason for this comes from how The Sims 3's online store hasn't done as well as EA wanted it to do because there was free content which was usually superior. Meaning that you can probably expect The Sims 4 to be always online, lacking initial content, and to have a fully integrated cash shop that is now your only option to getting anything new. If any of this is true, expect to see such unofficial modifications banned and "dlc" that unlocks some of those things which are obviously there, but prevented by default. Why anyone would be buying any EA product after this is beyond me.
