legend8804
It is Valve's policy to not offer refunds - particularly not in this particular instance. So sorry, but your money has been spent and they will most likely not offer you a refund (though Dragonborn is a good DLC anyways). Just because the TES5Edit finds an error does not necessarily mean that your files are 'screwed'. And even if they were, it's a simple matter of just having steam re-validate your files (which is necessary from time to time, particularly if you just purchased a new DLC - sometimes between pausing and resuming downloads things get messed up). If there were something about the DLC that made the game unplayable, you (probably) would have heard about it by now.
josalshep
well, there are some others having a problem with solstheim ( on bethesda forums ) which is why i bothered to write......i've tried integrating cache twice and one file fails to validate and 'will be reacquired' ( which it hasen't so far).........the point is, these things should work and for many of us don't!! the game will load, sure -- but why spend hours having a great time only to arrive at an expensive dlc which ctd? maybe steam will magically fix it eh? at least you set me right on the refund.....figures ps .. is there a way to get version 11? there are some dodgey looking ones on the net, but there's a SKSE version 11 that i can't get to work because it needs a higher upgrade....the reason i bought these goddamn dlc's was to maybe get a relevant update.....but i'm still at v 1.8.151etc. if i'd known this was gonna happen i wouldn't have bothered! tx
legend8804
SKSE is a very different thing from Skyrim. The official Skyrim patch is, indeed, v 1.8.151. SKSE is a seperate program, in a sense - it is a script extender. It lets people make mods for Skyrim in ways the developers did not originally allow for, and it is perfectly safe to use. What you are *possibly* looking for is the current beta build for SKSE, which is 1.6.11. This is for people who are currently testing the beta patch. Therefore, it is not necessary for you to have the 'version 11' of the current SKSE - and personally I would stay away from it, as it is in beta and could possibly cause more issues for you than it is worth. For the record, the official SKSE page can be found here, just in case you're worried about those 'dodgy sites'. As for the Dragonborn DLC: I am aware that Steam does, on occasion, have issues when reacquiring files, and sometimes it can take a little while for it to actually take. But generally, it does work after a fashion (it may require a restart, sometimes Steam is funny like that). I've had some issues with that myself in the past, amusingly enough it was with New Vegas when I purchased all the DLCs and I had trouble getting them to work properly. But it should sort itself out eventually - just keep an eye on the download, and if it seems to have paused itself, you can force it to restart by just clicking the pause/resume button a few times until it takes. You shouldn't have to install anything else in order for SKSE to be installed properly. Also be aware that if you plan on using SKSE, you will need to use a modified launch icon. Otherwise SKSE will not work, and any mods you have which require it will likewise not work properly either. Be sure to read the documentation on the site thoroughly - it's boring, but most of the time it can save you headaches. And lastly: It has been noted that Solstheim does in fact cause additional CTDs, but from what I'm seeing, a lot of it seems to be centered on some .ini tweaks, which I can't really say is on the fault of the developers, since on purely stock settings the game appears (at least for me, please let me know if that is not the case) to work pretty darn solidly. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll help you as best I am able.
