MGS Revengence tips?

so im at the like the 3rd boss? (chainsaw wolf thing haha) and i am having the most difficult time parrying for some reason. ive done the little VR tutorial a few times to make sure i was doing it right, and i can do it 100% of the time no problem. was parrying some in the game before this point to, but got to the boss and couldnt parry anything.

 

went online to see what people said, and i read that when the enemy attacks glow orange, to parry. it will make a block animation and youll block some of the attack, and if you time it right its parried. i do that and all i do is run forward and swing and get hit. i try holding back a little bit later in the attack animation so as to not to attempt a parry to earily, and same thing. ive watched videos where Raiden holds up his sword for a couple of seconds waiting for the attack, but i rarely see my Raiden do that. ive also tried timing it a la Demons Souls, to parry right before the attack lands, and still dont get that animation where he holds up the sword.

 

i dont know what in the hell im doing wrong. but its frustrating as hell because i keep dieing to the boss aand nothing i do is getting the block/parry animation. any help or tips would be appreciated.
