Pellape
I have not made a _g.dds for 12 years but I soon will again but in what DXT version should I save it as?? We do have DXT1, DXT3 and loads of different versions, I better take a sceenshot of the gimp exporter... And when we import the glass quiver_g.dds to DXT2BMP it claims that it is a targa and it refuses to show it as it can't... well it say it is a 32-bit. When we open the same file with gimp, it say it is a greyscaled 8-bit grayscaled in D65 with sRGB... ?? When I looked at others glow textures, they are saved in both DXT1, DXT3 or in the same format that the quiver has and someone even made them look like a normal, well blue and not greyscaled So how do we save glow textures in a proper way? Edit: I am not to bright sometimes... I did a google search after I posted this and I ended up in a Vegas forum, that pointed back to Oblivion Wiki that have a nice guide for Better Retextures : Detailed Guide For NifSkope and the GIMPI will peek at that guide but if you know, feel free to respond anyway  Edited December 22, 2020 by Pellape
DrakeTheDragon
Well, I for one always use DXT1. Mipmaps must be though, as in every texture type. I've seen aplenty of different setups, but in general the glow map only needs greyscale. The color comes from a mixture of the diffuse map (=texture) and the color in which the material emits light (Emissive property in NiMaterial settings).Like I said, I for one always went for white emissive light and greyscale glow map, having the color come from the texture itself. Though those other approaches might have their merit and maybe create special effects.I don't know though if a colored glow map has any effect. Pellape
Thanks DrakeTheDragon I do remember that I started to experiemnt with glass 2006, just before Oblivion came out in Morrowind and I continued in Oblivion and had a pure hell making it look nice. I think I did different tests for weeks with different results, but I have forgot how I did it and the files are gone as I never published them. But I seen many have made similar, so there is a lot of different sources to peek at. I made these jars that was meant to be my alchemy sorter, similar to the ones available in Morrowind. Well... I will not need to lab for weeks when I need to do glowmaps again...
