ashtonlp101
So I'm attempting to set up version control. Been following the steps on the GeckWiki but when I got to load my ESP along with FNV.ESM and the DLC ESMs I get greeted with never-ending pop-ups. I sat there for 20 minutes while the FNV.Fud was loading or whatever, I honestly have no clue what is going on, the Wiki didn't go into much detail on how to use this so I'm kind of going in blind. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.
madmongo
Make sure that you are running the GECK as Administrator. Otherwise you can end up with permission errors. Did you create the .fid .fud and .fvd files? Copy the esm files to your network share folder, open the GECK, then for each esm click on the Details button as if you were just going to see what records are in the file, but instead of doing that, click on Yes when it asks to use an empty list to save memory, and when the blank list comes up, press Control+Shift+B. Yes, the GECK is a truly miserable toolset. When you are done, check in your network share that each of the esm files that are there now also has a .fid .fud and .fvd file with it. The GECK warns you that it takes a long time for it to create these files. In my experience it doesn't take very long. Do not use the GECK power-up when running the GECK in networked mode. It will not work correctly. Loading files should take roughly the same amount of time as before. It shouldn't sit there for any length of time on any files. Make a backup copy of your esp before you do anything. If you don't check it in properly you can permanently screw up the file. Once you load the GECK with your esp as the active file, go to Version Control and it should show you a list of everything that you changed in your esp. Click Check Out to check out everything that you changed. Then immediately click on Check In (you might need to restart the GECK in between checking out and checking in but I don't think so) and check your changes into a new esm. If you screw something up here you can end up with the GECK refusing to check in your changes no matter what. If you get your mod into that state, I don't know how to get it out of it. Copy over the backup copy of your mod that you created and start over with the check out and then check in. Your esp should be in your regular Fallout data directory. Only your esm files should be copied over to your network share. Once you check things in to your new esm, the new modified esm will be in your network share folder. You'll have to manually copy it over to your Fallout data directory.

madmongo
Older versions definitely not. Newer versions claim to be compatible with Version Control but I believe there is something that you have to disable in the ini files. Not sure. I can't get it to run on my system.
