Sirandar888
Lots of people upgrade their cards but for unfortunate reasons I had to downgrade mine. I had a pretty much perfectly working SSE load with the 1070. Switching to a 970 and updating the drivers resulted in absolutely horrible performance as it was. To get buttery smooth performance back and low script latency I had to ditch HDT and down scale all my textures to 1K. I was using a lot of texture packs but the 1070 handled them with no issue whatsoever. The 3.5 GB on the 970 gets filled up pretty quick and this manifests as great frame rates when you're looking in one direction but the minute you turn the camera your frame rates drop to zero and your script latency goes up into the 500s. I could have ditched the texture packs but downscaling them to 1K really didn't make much difference at 1080p. I would just buy a 1070 but it seems that graphics technology has stalled at the 1070, and used 1070s are selling for $1,000$. Series 2,000 and series 3,000 GPUs are also ridiculously priced or unavailable. So they take a message for a 970 is just down scale all your textures and use CBP instead of HDT.... The HDT hairs are really nice but even on a perfect system HDT is glitchy and results in unpredictable increases in script latency even after AERS took a shot at fixing it. Sirandar888
Using the Skyrim performance monitor even when all my textures are at 1K my vram is still full to the brim at 4GB but the performance is acceptable.
saurusmaximus
Are you running an ENB? Those can tax your GPU pretty hard in some cases. I would just buy a 1070 but it seems that graphics technology has stalled at the 1070, and used 1070s are selling for $1,000$Where are you looking that you are seeing those prices? I just looked on ebay and there are like 10 listings for less than $200USD. Even new, they can be had for less than $700, which is stupidly expensive considering it's now 2 generations old.
