enkephalin07
Silent Hill doesn't apply to this subject. It's not an RPG, you can't choose to spend points in lockpick or not to spend points in lockpick. You assume whatever abilities you have belong to a character created before you picked up the game, and therefore you can't invest in a skill that the creator can arbitrarily wipe his ass with. Thasic
I have had some training as a locksmith. I am not a locksmith but I do know how to rekey and repin locks. With that as my credentials, poor at best, I would like to point out there are locks that are actually unpickable. They are made by a company called Medeco and if you look at the key you would realize they ARE unpickable. So maybe, for those few with a bruised ego at the unfairness of it all, those horrid, game breaking unpickable locks are actually made by Medeco. See! All better now. Not like a screwdriver (which I do not even have in my inventory...) and a bobby pin are gonna pick anything, anywhere, anytime soon anyway.Boots work better. Why no Strength based smash options? With a risk of breaking whatever's inside. Or exploding it. heh.
dthumb
Can't I just use a Fatman or Mininuke to blast a door open? So I can go through those inaccessible doors so that I could go through the portal of the magical world of illegal operations and errors. http://thenexusforums.com/style_images/vro...icons/icon9.gif
tx3000
I think everyone is overlooking something. This game may give you the ab ility to pick locks but it doesn't allow you to open up a lock that requires a special key. For example here is a real life scenario:I used to close a fast food restuarant, and the key used on that door to lock/unlock it was specialized, so that even if you had all the know how on picking locks it was still impossible to pick with tools just because of the exact way the lock was designed. Another example I will use are vending machine keys (The circle ones) you can't pick them open with normal tools either. Anyway the thing just about everyone has overlooked is this: It doesn't say that the lock cannot be opened at all, it simply says that it requires a key. In which case you can still choose to get at the contents, but there are going to be ramifications for doing so. So in legit play, this particular instance forces you as the player, to make a choice where if you want the contents of the container, your going to have to kill the person to get at it. As for this comment:I have had some training as a locksmith. I am not a locksmith but I do know how to rekey and repin locks. With that as my credentials, poor at best, I would like to point out there are locks that are actually unpickable. There is no such thing as an un-pickable lock, that's like saying there is such thing as an un-hackable computer program. But just because you have not seen it, doesn't mean it can't be gotten around, all that means is that you have not seen it.
