mikegray
I just moved my Windows 7 "my documents" folder from my root drive (a fullish SDD) to a second SDD. I transferred everything to the new drive, changed a few file location assignments, removed the old directory from Windows 7 libraries and erased the contents. Office 2010 is working fun. However, Skyrim has re-created the old directory on my root drive and continues to save its log files there instead of routing them to the new folder - i.e. "c:\documents" instead "m:\documents." I'm a little flummoxed since I don't see any way of changing default file locations - I've checked Skyrim, all the .ini files I could find AND Steam, all to no avail. BTW, the same holds for SKSE logs and HiAlgo logs. (Which I wasn't even really aware of, but there they are!) Since my Windows 7 default documents location has changed, it must be hard wired somewhere ... Any way of changing this? I can't for the life of me find anyplace telling skyrim where to put the stuff - could it be a registry entry?
Muzle84
Yes, surely a registrery entry issue:'ProfilesDirectory' (and 'Default' and 'Public') still poitning to your first SSD.Software such as Skyrim use this system setting unless there is an option inside the software itself to change this location. Have a look athttp://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-change-user-profile-default-location-in-windows-7/orhttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/87555-user-profile-change-default-location.html Take care before changing registrery entries! Create a 'restoraion point' before.

Create a 'restoraion point' before. Thanks for that post - I really appreciate it! OTOH, I don't think I want to start futzing with my registry. My own profile's "My Documents" folder is now on the new SSD and is recognized as such by most software - but I don't even have enough space on the second SSD to transfer the entire "Users" folder (with 3 other profiles). In the past I've tried following complex registry tutorials to move default user folders to alternative drives (including a NAS - which was an awful idea). Up till now, this lead directly to a lot of bad language and a brand new installation of windows! (This is one area I wish Windows 8 had paid attention to. People with SSDs need better option about this kind of stuff.) In any case, I have a feeling that this particular case is some Steam and/or Skyrim registry key, not a general Windows entry. Anyway ... for now I've simply added a shortcut to my Windows 7 favorites to the c:\documents location for Skyrim logs, and I think I'll call it a day. If I get really ambitious I can probably fix it with a mklink command - but right now I'm even too lazy to ask Google how to do it ...
