SKSE issues?

Unfortunately earlier today we found out that some of our file servers had been hacked, replacing manual (not NMM) downloads with a malicious installer that contained malware. This hack was targeted as the hacker deliberately named the file “Nexus_Downloader.exe” to try and snag as many people as possible. While I haven’t tried to run it myself it seems to be a scam malware that sends the user to a fake FBI page informing the user they must pay must in order to unlock their system. To make it worse only 4 of the 20 main anti-virus programs people use flagged this as a virus. It’s obviously a relatively new one that most haven’t caught up with, and this might have caught a few of you off guard.

Ouch! It appears our situation has gone from bad to worse. The malware listed in Darkones message are very tough to remove, so it may be a while before we get any Skse or SkyUi updates. The best thing we can do is to avoid Skyrim until this situation is resloved. I wish the best of luck to whoever is traking down this hacker.

To who ever else has this problem, please list what changes you made to get his message. It may help the modders find a quick solution. *Sigh* Here are the steps to my error:[/font]

1) Installed NMM 44.3 -Check

2) Installed SkyUI 3.4 -Check

3) Installed Skse 1.6.13 -Check

4) Opted out of Beta mode on Steam -Check

5) Verify files on Steam -Check

Launch Skse (from the Skyrim directory) and receive error "Please update to the latest version of Skyrim."

All .dll files not belonging to SkyUi 3.4 or Skse 1.6.13 has been deleted. However the error still remains and if I try loading from the (normal) Skyrim launcher; all my meshes & textures are gone. Somebody needs to pay for this...

I think that when you "verify files" Steam may be overwriting some of the SKSE files with the default Skyrim versions. Plus opting out of the beta could have changed your Skyrim version, too. Installing SKSE should be last on the list, with the version of SKSE you download matching the version of Skyrim you're running.

The Nexus malware incident has nothing to do with SKSE, as SKSE isn't hosted on the Nexus servers.

Thanks for the tip DreamKingMods. I've re-installed SkyUI (v3.4) and Skse (v1.6.13) through NMM (as shown by gopher on youtube) and had no issue with the installs.

However, I still think NMM is to blame. I had no problems with Skyrim until I updated NMM. Also, I remember using Skse before checking with Steam and that was the first time I saw the request for "Please update to the latest version of Skyrim".

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe that Steam requires a password to use the Beta version, so I fail to see how Steam could of given me an older version of Skyrim (currently running v1.9.32.0.8 ). *sigh* This is all very frustrating. I even tried un-installing all mods from NMM and manually installing SkyUI and Skse. >.<

I guess my only option is to fully un-install Skyrim and re-install it with Steam. Wish me luck...

I finally solved my problem. NMM had created another Skyrim folder on my E: drive which confused the hell out of Skse. Strange isn't?

Mystique - I recommend that you try Gophers approach to installing SkyUI and Skse. (Seen halfway on this video:

)

Please make sure you delete ALL files that say "Skse" before installing the latest version (just look for them your Skyrim folder). Good luck!

Okay,

So I have been reading this thread for the last few days and I've been getting this whole "Please update to the latest version of Skyrim." and of course I have , I have downloaded the skse_1_06_13.7z pack and I have followed the recommended video where someone , step by step , brings you through the guide of installing SKSE , but I'm still getting the same error "Please update to the latest version of Skyrim.".

If the case is that SKSE just isn't compatible with the latest update for Skyrim then that's cool and if anyone could confirm this I would be great full. But if its the case that its just something that I, obviously, did then does anyone have any recommendation's ?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
