Eugenedebs Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Hello to all, I have windows Vista and recently I started getting mods through Nexus, and while a couple have worked, recently I've been hitting a snag. With almost any mod I download, I use winRAR and extract the files to my data folder, then watch in horror as rather than integrate and allow me to activate them, the game creates a new folder for them in the data files, I can't use it in the game and it's getting obnoxious. I'm relatively new to this stuff, so any help given would be greatly appreciated!

deliverance6 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 yeh that'll be vista and program files install
Eugenedebs Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Actually, no I didn't. It's in a folder called Fallout placed outside of the program files
Smosh Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Personally, I never extract stuff straight to the Data folder in case the mod's file structure is incorrect or creates its own Data folder with the mod inside (this would mean two Data folders). I extract to a separate Fallout folder in my Downloads directory. I then manually copy and paste over what I need.
Circuitous Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Always open the archive file and extract manually, some people put their mod in a folder before packing it up, and end up with that same folder in the archive.
Skotte Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Good points Smosh & Circuitous, Don't just blindly put the mods in the "data" folder.
Eugenedebs Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thank you for the advice, the bit with the folder made it possible for me to get mods into the game. However, in each case, I copied/ pasted the textures and the meshes into their respective folders it still sometimes makes folders out of them, or in other cases just doesn't use them. So whenever I use a mod it has no shape sometimes or no color other times (though admittedly when it constantly changes shape it's kind of cool). Sorry for being so difficult, but could you guys talk me through this?
