It looks like the always on drm thing may be true, if this is the case the new xbox has already failed in my mind. What do you think of this news, looks like Microsoft didn't take the Simcity fail to seriously, bad move in my opinion.

The battle of the console, the PlayStation has already won.

Also the disk based install can be a problem with people who buy allot of games, especially huge games that are over 30gb in size. Also if they are sticking with the awfully overpriced preparatory HDD"S i can see even more hating going on.

Kind of defeats the purpose of bluray in the 360 if games can't even take advantage of it...

Why are they stepping in the footprints of EA? EA is already the most hated company in America. They were rated higher than the bank of america. I think that REALLY says something. Considering that bank of America has foreclosed on hundreds of families homes and all.

If this is really confirmed i can see them sinking lower then EA, do they really want that is the question. Will they ever learn???.

If we want this to stop, then we must do one thing; stop pirates and stop selling/buying second hand games. Oh and don't start comparing games to cars/books/other products, they are completely different.

Also, I'm planning to buy PS4 anyway, I love their exclusives better

Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down there. Stopping pirates/piracy, I'm all for that. Stop buying second-hand games? I ain't buying anything then, I ain't got the money for it. :(

You have to take into consideration that not everyone has money to buy a new game, hell, I fix bikes in exchange for games. The ones I actually buy are second-hand games from a store in town, I got FO3 GOTY there for 5$, Starcraft + Brood War for 2$ and LOTR: BFME for 5$ cause I don't have money. And you expect me to go pay 20$ on Steam for FO3, 50$ on BattleNet for Starcraft and 80$ for LOTR?

No thanks, humans have survived without playing games until 30 years ago so I think I can survive too.

And I can see only one reason for blocking second-hand games: money. If you want a game and you can't buy a used one, you'll have to give 50$ to the developer instead of 5-10$ to a local store selling a used copy or become a thief (which I can't be even if I want to, military service, my computer is monitored constantly). Money makes the world spin, simple as that.

Also, constant internet connection? I doubt that'll work, not everyone has constant internet connection (limitations, crappy connection, etc). Croatia for one has a rather bad communicational infrastructure and I got a regular downtime of 2-5 hours per day (in random intervals).

So, even if I spend a bunch of money on an over-expensive game, I won't be able to play it due to DRM which requires me to be constantly connected to the internet. Brilliant...

Stopping the sale of second hand games essentially kills the ability to buy hard copies of old games on PC and makes it impossible to ever get another game on an old console.

I am pretty sure if we want this to stop the best thing to do would be not to purchase their product when the put crazy things like this into effect. If Microsoft doesn't receive sales on the new xbox I am pretty sure that will be good indication to them that they are doing something wrong.

Doing exactly what they want in relation to used game sales only hurts the customer:

-Not everyone can afford to pay $59.99-$69.99+tax on every title

-Not everyone can upgrade as soon as a new console is released because 'no used games' means you can't add previous generation games to your old consoles library.

-This also means that consoles don't need to support hard copy games from the previous model because how could one ever aquire old games unless they had them already?

A resonable soloution could be this instead of the drm:

If the developers want additional money that they feel is being lost due to second hand sales they should add a mandatory 're-use' tax onto new games ($5 or something) which becomes the responsibility of the store (not the customer) buying the games to pay. That way the developers are not entirely losing out on used sales and the stores are in some way entering into an agreement in which they are able to sell used games. Used games are beneficial to a franchise because it allows the player to get into it from the start and with a game that has spanned over several generations of console this is necessary.

Also, comparing games to books are pretty much the same. An author is selling their work (just like a game publisher is selling 'intellectual property') for revenue from the initial sale. After that they are not receiving anything from their books if they are sold as used. Same thing that happens with games as neither books or games generate money for the creators after that first sale.
