charwo
When I try and start a new game a new game doesn't start, I get a black screen with the health bars and some red thing in between. When I took all FNC content out of load order, the new game option wouldn't work at all, it wouldn't even take me to the black screen. dubiousintent
"User Interface (UI)" problems indicate you have changed XML files. This is often caused by an "install order" problem with more than one mod replacing or editing the same XML file. Please see the wiki "HUD-UI-Menu issues" article. (This takes some interpretation as applies to your situation. There are too many permutations for an "if A then B" type of guide. If you haven't encountered XML files before then the "TL;DR" section is not going to help by itself.) "Disabling" mods is not enough to restore things to "vanilla" if they overwrote any files. UI mods definitely do this, and can make "edits" to other existing XML files. You have to "verify local files" to restore the originals, and still may need to delete the "loose files" so those vanilla versions get used from the BSA files. Then correct the sequence in which you install those UI affecting mods. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' entry of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. Work through the "Checklist" and 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' and possibly the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. -Dubious-
M48A5
You have been here long enough to know what information needs to be supplied to get you a reasonable answer. Why did you not post it? Information such as mods that are not included in the load order, mod manager, system information, install location, etc. All the information that is mentioned in the Wiki article "How to ask for help" https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/How_to_ask_for_help

I looked it up on google with new vegas, no results. People mention them all the time but I have no clue what they are or what alters them or why so I can backtrack, I verified my contents, then reinstalled my vanilla New Vegas files, nothing helped. And honestly that Nexus wiki is like the Geck wiki: I break out in hives just looking at it. I can't do anything with that. I can't work with direction that dense that don't explain WHY. Everything is arbitrary without understanding why and that's why I can't make heads or tails of anything printed in that thing. And it won't work is not a why, that's a result. Just tell me what I need to nuke in order of most likely, and I'll reinstall if that's all you have the patience for, cause I recognize not everyone's got the patience to explain everything to me, in person, slowly and in crayon which is the only way I learn new concepts. THat nexus wiki is horrible. It's overwhelming, the install location problem only mentions Vista and makes no mention of anything after for good or ill, and they need to be called by name and my game was running fine on the same damn specs, which haven't changed in seven damn years and Fallout 3 works just fine here too, so that's not relevant either. So I didn't mention them. This is a issue with the game files themselves, which I have NEVER seen before in eight years of modding. Never even heard of this problem. dubiousintent
This is a "non-trivial" problem, related to the "install order" (not the "load order') of certain mods. XML files are vaguely similar to the untrained eye to HTML files in that they use "tagged lines" to define how the screen gets displayed. If you don't recognize the term, you will either have to educate your self, or (my suggestion) "verify files" and reinstall all your mods as outlined in my earlier reply. Doesn't matter how long your game has been stable. As soon as you add or remove some mod, you put everything at risk. The Windows operating system under the "Windows as a Service" doctrine now used by M$ automatically updates (eventually no matter how long you try to delay or avoid) with very little (if any) testing against old programs and games, again putting your game at risk. While I understand that many wiki articles are "dense with techno-babble", that is the nature of the beast. I wrote the "HUD-UI-Menu issues" article when I picked up FNV in 2014 and couldn't find anything about the problem myself. (I am always willing to make improvements in response to specifics. "Horrible" isn't specific.) But you have to apply some common sense and interpret things for your own situation. It is impossible (at least for me) to write a guide that covers every possible combination of mods that affect or modify XML files, which results in "generalizations" aside from specifics for very common mods. And in general, anything that applies to "Vista" also applies to all later versions of Windows unless explicitly stated otherwise. -Dubious-
