Crash at Germantown Police HQ and several other locations

Hi,

 

as mentioned in the Title I am experiencing a lot of crashes at several locations in the wasteland.

Germantown Police HQ in particular. Everytime I try to approach Germantown Police HQ from the south the game crashes.

Some areas where this happened i could simply walk around the "Crash Area" but not here.

I am using the exact load order specified in the FWE Readme, and also have all of the necessary compatability patches installed.

As you can see I also created a Merged Patch and did the FO3MasterUpdate.

I suspect the source of the crashes to be MMM but im not quiet certain and i also would like to keep the mod running if somehow possible.

 

if anyone could help me resolve this isseu it would be really great!

EDIT: I completely disabled MMM, yet the game still crashedat the same place it crashed before

Looking at your load order & I see you have a few MMM plugins that you don't need.

You need to untick & delete all of these:

Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp

Are included in the Mart's Mutant Mod - FWE Master Release.esp FOIP patch which you are missing.

It's meant to be used as well as the Mart's Mutant Mod - FWE Master Release + DLCs.esp that you have, not instead of. So that should leave your MMM load order thus:

Mart's Mutant Mod.esm (Fine where it is)


Mart's Mutant Mod.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Anchorage.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC The Pitt.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Broken Steel.esp

Remember to remake your Merged Patch after making the changes.

As to your crashing, if it persists, try turning off all your mods & see if you get the crashing.

If no crashing, it's definitely one of your mods.

Turn them back on one mod (or group of mods) at a time, checking in game between each to see if the problem has returned. That way you can identify the culprit.

Remember to leave your Merged Patch off during the testing as leaving it on can interfere with testing.

I have reinstalled a few mods and deinstalled a few i did not use, and noticed as you said I forgot a few Compatability Patches.

I tried to go near Germantown Police HQ with these mods activated, but the game crashed again.

 

So I tried disabling all mods and trying to go to the Police HQ with Vanilla, but i still got a crash with no mods active at all!

 

I have no idea what else I could try to get it work Oo

 

EDIT: I noticed I forgot to disable Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp, so I deleted that, waited 4 days to reset the cells and tried again to go to the Police HQ, now, it seems, the game crashes even more often ...

Did you remember to remake your Merged Patch after removing the Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp?

That would suggest there's something wrong other than your mods. Either your savegame or your Fallout set up.

 

Is it a crash to desktop you're getting or a freeze?

 

If it's a freeze & you have a multicore computer it's probably the Fallout 3 multi core bug.

Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading.

There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file.

The one you want to change is:

For XP:

My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\

For Vista & Win7:

Documents\My Games\Fallout3

The file you want will be called:

FALLOUT.ini

Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

& insert this line under it:

iNumHWThreads=2

Save & close your ini.

 

If it's not a freeze or you don't have a multicore, try making a clean save without your mods active.

 

Switch off all mods, load up your game, go to your Megaton/Tenpenny home & wait 4 game days, save & exit the game.

 

Switch back on all your mods & reload. See if you can get to Germantown now.

 

Also, do you have any texture packs installed? They don't have .esp's or .esm's so can't be unticked & you wouldn't think of them when turning off other mods.

 

Sometimes hi res texture packs can be too much in certain areas if their concentration is high depending on your rigs capabilities.

 

If you're using a Texture pack, uninstall it & see if you can travel to that area without it.

 

If still no joy, have you made any tweaks to your .ini recently? If so, try turning the changed setting back to default & see what happens.

yes after disabling Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp i remade the Merged Patch.

 

What I am getting is a crash to desktop, I always get the message "Fallout3.exe has stopped working"

 

I also already added the lines you suggested to my FALLOUT.ini, as I do have a multicore processor.

 

I also do have a few Texture Packs Installed, but I would think my Rig could handle them.

 

And last but not least i also made a few more changes to the FALLOUT.ini:

I think this is your problem: uGridsToLoad=9

I think you may have overlooked this line in the tweaks:

"There may even be more prominent stuttering as well, not to mention the possibility of visual glitches and the greater likelihood of crashes due to the extra memory usage."

If you have not made the game large address aware, it makes no difference how much ram you have installed, the game will only use 2GB. When it runs out of RAM, the game will crash.

Hello M48A5,

 

I am quiet certain you just solved my Problem!

I reset the uGridsToLoad to the default value of 5 and I was actually able to enter the area around Germantown Police HQ this time.

 

just to make sure I also tried loading up my savegame where I was standing inside the area where the game crashed before, then going into the FALLOUT.ini and changing the value from 5 to 7.

Then after using refini in the console the game crashed, so I think thats what was causing it.

 

I was initially modifying this value because i used the Large Address Aware Enabler for Fallut 3 and thought with 12GB Ram My Computer could handle it.
