deveron773
Hello! I apologize for the potentially unorganized nature of this post, but I am relatively new to modding Skyrim. Mostly I've been dabbling in texture alterations but at the moment I am trying to get the character head model to appear under a helmet that I've added an transparency property to through NifSkope for my own personal use. The problem is the helmet uses the head slot so even if I made parts of the helmet texture transparent no head will show underneath. I've searched the web looking for answers or tips but have had trouble understanding or implementing them. I've tried giving the armor a new body slot in the Creation Kit and giving the same properties to the Helmet nif files in NifSkope but the helmet just shows up invisible and my player character's face is there as normal (as if they weren't wearing a helmet at all). I would appreciate any insight or help. If it helps at all, I essentially want the helmet to do what the Imperial Light Helmet or Iron Helmet from the base game do; show your player character's head underneath. Thank you for your time! And I appreciate any feedback or tutorials I might have just missed. Edited January 12, 2021 by deveron773
IsharaMeradin
Have the helmet not use the head slot.See here for a list of body slots, their typical uses and instructions on how to change them: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Skyrim_bodyparts_number Most helmets use slot 31 and replace the hair instead of slot 30 which would replace the head. Some use slot 42 (normally circlets) so that both head and hair can be seen as well. There are three places to change the body slot assignment: the NIF file, the armor record and the armor addon record. All three must have the same slot assigned or it will not show properly. The armor addon and armor records can have additional slots added if additional body parts need to be hidden when the item is worn.
deveron773
Thank you very much! Edit: Just in case anyone runs into this same problem, I have it working! It turns out I forgot to make sure the ArmorAddon was correctly changed in the Creation Kit. Also make sure your new esp is activated. Thanks again!
