Radnen
All, I have a RTX 2070, and I've noticed the game plummet to below 30fps when I'm in front of a lot of candles or other sources of light, running S:SE with an ENB. I researched this, and while there are mods to reduce or eliminate 'candle lag', nothing was working. Furthermore, it only seemed to affect me if I have the ENB enabled. Disabling it causes framerate to go way back to normal. And it only affects me when I'm staring at the flames. Looking away from them, even if I'm in the presence of them, brings FPS to normal. Also, if they are in a certain radius from me. Get far enough away and FPS returns. I then saw a post regarding particle limits and performance. There is an ini setting called iMaxDesired, mine was 750 and I set it to 50, just to be a tad extreme. That completely eliminated the slowdown with particles, but at the expense of pretty ugly candle light flickering in the scene. [Particles] iMaxDesired=50 I read further this has to do with graphics bottlenecking in older graphics cards... I'd imagine like a GTX 460 or GTX 560? The thing is, I have a freaking RTX 2070, and there's no way in hell it's bottlenecking 8GBs of GDDR6 memory. There's no way it's outdone by 30 candles. Also, sometimes it can be 30 candles and see no dip in FPS or a single candle and get the FPS dip... It's random and varies scene to scene. I'm in Volunruud crypt, and the candles there dropped me below 30 FPS. So whatever it is is, it *HAS* to be a bug in ENB Series, or in a shader being used by it. An RTX 2070 is more than enough for a decade old game with honestly pretty rudimentary 3D scenes compared to modern games like MW5 and Cyberpunk 2077 which runs 60-70fps on my rig at ultra. These games also pump out 3 or more times the scene geometry than Skyrim ever could!! It makes no sense to me. Anyways, I hope this finding helps others who struggle with candle sources in their ENBs, even though they already have a more than capable GPU. I hope word gets around and someone gets them to fix this bug in ENB. It has something to do with it. Edit:I'm not sure if tyhis should be moved to the other forum? I had no idea S:SE and Skyrim were split here. Though untested, this bug may persist in the base game too. Certainly, everything in this post works for vanilla Skyrim too.
