Morrowind crashes when loading a save right before dialogue

So this one is pretty frustrating:

 

whenever I save a game before talking to an NPC (so I can start the conversation over if I want) and I quickload after exiting the dialogue, the game crashes. It crashes if I try to load the save from the main menu too. The last time this happened, I quicksaved and regular saved before talking with the NPC, and both save crash when I load them. Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

If you've got a save from before you entered the cell with the NPC in it, try loading from there.
