Levelling system - once and for all?

perfetto

Since i´ve been wondering about if and/how AI:n in Skyrim does level with me or not and only gotten very diffuse answes on other forums...i ask you experts ; )

Example 1 - i get in a cave at level 5 and have a short contact with bandits there. I leave the cave and get back to the same cave in level 22. Will the inhabitants there have levelled also, or are they still on the level they were at my first visit?

Example 2 - i get in a cave at level 22 and meet very hard resistance in spite of good gear and potions. Have the Draughts in there been levelling up to my level when i get in there, or have they been high levelled from the beginning?

IF AI:n in Skyrim actually do level with me....what is the point in levelling at all?

From the elder scrolls wiki

Enemy leveling system

Due to the highly-criticized leveling system of Oblivion, enemy leveling is being handled in Skyrim using a method similar to Fallout 3; some locations are set independently of the player's level and will not be reasonable for the player to attempt to take on at a lower level, whereas other areas will have enemies and loot set according to player level at the time of the player's first entry into the location. In the second case, the enemies will stay at that level determined by the player's first entry, meaning that a player returning to a location visited early in the game will be able to clear the location of foes with greater ease.

The point of enemies scaling up is that prevents the game from getting super boring when the player is at moderately high levels. Thus the numerous mods that increase enemy scaling at higher levels.

Thank´s, but what level is the bandits and other creatures one meets at roads or free in woods? Do they all level up with me, and if so - the exact same level or some litmited max level?

Bandits and other creatures vary by location and type. Not sure what your concern is?

If you want to know the exact level of a specific enemy you can use the console command "getlevel" with the refID of the specific enemy.

Alternately, you could go into the creation kit, pull up the specific area, see what is being spawned in the encounter zone, and check out it's level (creation kit page about this here)

Skyrim uses a variety of different creatures with different levels, and different handling of encounter zones and relative leveling, as explained before.

I do understand they have different levels depending on area in Skyrim, but do they level with me or is their level set from beginning?

As the wiki article quote says, there are two kinds of encounters. In some cases the enemies have set levels from the beginning, and in other cases they level with you. When they level with you, there are various percentages of your stats that are used to determine that, anywhere from 33% to 125%. The creation kit link I provided you goes into more detail on that.

Bethesda chose to try to mix it up a bit, more like Fallout than Oblivion, so that encounters feel more random.

Most do max out, I forget if it is at level 40 or 50. Something like that. (Low-level creatures max out much sooner) Which is why the vanilla game gets super boring at high player levels, unless you like 1-hitting everything.

Again, if you pull up specific creatures or enemies in the CK you can see this more specifically.
