Gary91
One of the things that bothered me the most about Skyrim except for the half-finished questlines and all that is the way the gear looks. Armor items often look ugly (the guard and stormcloak helmet stands out), bulky and unrealistic, and many of the weapons look like props rather than real weapons as they're way oversized and strangely proportioned. Also the general look and feel of the game world such as bandits looking like prehistoric savages lightly dressed in furs despite Skyrim being described as rather freezing. What I'd like to do is an overhaul of the armor and weapons as I think they should look more nordic and medieval with a more real-world feel to them (at least the human stuff). Also in general the game could be grittier with the whole civil war thing going on.Some examples of concrete things I was thinking of:1. Realswords, Regent's Armory, Lost Longswords etc. type weapons replacing the vanilla ones that look unrealistic. More variations of steel items based on culture of origin and less focus on "high level loot"2. Guard helmets replaced by norse type draugr helmets reskinned to look less ancient3. Bandits looking more like vikings and less like savages although in the colder parts of the game world using skaal type armor (DLC required I guess)4. Armor overhauled to include more chainmail and wooden shields (reskinned hide shield with new normal map with a variety of painted patterns) etc.In general, more of a gritty (though not ridiculously so) medieval low fantasy feel to many aspects of the game.Question is, is there any interest in such a mod? Would anyone be willing to help me out? WIP SCREENS ADDED The shield is one of many varieties that will be added to loot lists and vendors and so on The helmet is the raider helmet by Redxavier and the sword is from Chronicles of Steel Realswords by Waalx and ShinGouki. They are used in this screen in order to illustrate how I intend it to look, but I do not have their permissions to use their work. I'm not gonna upload their work in a mod without permission, just so that's clear. Edited April 3, 2013 by Gary91
ThegnAnsgar
I know this is an old thread, but this is exactly the kind of thing I'd been looking for in Skyrim. Here's hoping for some more interest in things like this. Just making it a place which is less fantastic and more down to earth would be a nice touch. Fantasy Skyrim is fun, but now I'm wanting something a little more different, and this would exactly fulfil that need.
ScottC12
I am no modder, but there are some mods on the Nexus that look like they may be more in line with what you are seeking. Here are some mods that I use to get a more European Dark Ages/Medieval vibe:Knights of the Nine – “Lore-friendly” (from TES Oblivion) European-style heavy plate armor. There are also a few variants in a separate mod, including Teutonic, Hospitaller, and Tempar surcoats.NorseViking Armor II: Good ‘ol chaimail byrnies, and “real” Viking style helmets (not horns). No “stripper” armor here!Witcher 2 Helmet Pack, also Shield Pack, as well as Dawnguard and Standard Heavy Plate Immersive Armors – Provides more variation on armors found on NPCs, bandits, and in levelled lists of loot. I’ve seen bandits in wearing a variety of mismatched armors, which seems more realistic. I’ve also seen more chainmail armors from NorseViking Armor II, and even some Viking round shields on bandits.2 sword mods by ElvarheimGood luck with your project!
