Michlo
I have been using it for the past three days and I really like it. I put it on my Vista 64 gaming box and left my Vista 32 e-mail / surfing box alone for now. The only snag I ran into was having to install the Creative driver in Vista compatibility mode. Now, however, presumably after a windows update during the night, I can no longer run Fallout 3. It starts and just sits there. I have a post on the W7 forums, of course but I was wondering if anybody else has any experience / feedback yet? All in all, it is definitely slicker and as has so often been said (even by MS), what Vista ought to have been. It also took a lot less space to install and so far seems a little zippier. :) Some people are complaining about the changes to the task bar but I think it is just a case of getting used to the changes. The biggest one being that there is no longer a quick-launch bar. The currently running apps share space with your "pinned to task bar" apps. It is a simple right click on any of them to launch a new instance (say a new browser) but many people don't seem to like it. Other than that it has been very stable and I'm seeing nifty little things like the calculator being beefed up. Cheers.
chuckskyline
I just find it funny that it is in the BETA stage, with Vista being so new. I hate Vista. I really do. I'll be getting XP here soon. Vista is almost as bad as Windows ME. The only difference is well, Vista hogs the system and ME just didn't work. I bid you goodluck with Windows 7. I hope you don't run into the problems as Vista has.

I hope you don't run into the problems as Vista has. I was one of the beta testers for Vista too. I've been in IT a long while. The only "problems" Vista had were the back-log on drivers coming out for it. I've never had any issues with it and whilst it isn't what we had all hoped it is still better than XP and the previous operating systems put out. It may seem as though Vista was hogging the system but PCs are becoming more and more powerful (and cheaper to boot) so it was aimed at those. An OS has to be future proofed as much as possible, after all. Anyway, I'm not going to really try to convince you otherwise. Some people love it, some never will. Again, so far I am very happy with W7, especially given that it is still only in beta. Cheers.
Gligamesh
I thought about joining the Beta, but I've only got the one rig and if it asplodes, I'm screwed for a month or so until I can free up enough budget to get a new one.
Callighan
I'm hearing that it's not the systems hog Vista was. So I guess I'm more inclined to check it out. Anyway, I'm a Vista user myself and I love it. I just hope Microsoft won't pull the plug on Vista updates too soon after Windows 7 comes out. Sniperwhere
The first thing to come to mind was this: http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/windows_7.png But anyways, I don't really know much about this. I'm hoping it will be better than Vista because my Vista seems to have problems existing.

Aye, I was happy to note that it didn't take as much disk space either. :)
chuckskyline
Vista has lots of problems. The security questions ( I know that you can turn it off) The incompatible of certain problems with vista, like games will not play on vista, some Anti Virus software won't work, and other software issues with Vista. The several thousand complaints that Vista will not shut off or restart. The screen goes black and just hangs there and MS has no solution for the problem or no patch for it. Vista and some networking problems that it has. Vista has a lot of problems...not to be a jerk or anything, but google it, their is A LOT of problems with it... Vista also makes my 2.5GHZ 2G of ram laptop run horribly slow because its a hog.

The trouble is that computers come in all different shapes, sizes and configurations. It isn't necessarily all down to an OS. Sorry if I sound like a fan boy but you can't write something off just because SOME are having problems which are likely down to an issue on their side (including vendors not coming out with appropriate drivers). maYuYang
Some weeks ago, I was considering to get vista for my notebook, but when I tested it at work, I quickly changed my mind. While I think that MS isn't actually making bad software, the fact that they seem so greedy and that they are so crazy about un-transparency bugs me abit. I wanted to test win7, too, but wasn't able to dl it on their site. Probably got to wait until I can get a demo on a disc. I will use ubuntu soon, but leave a 2nd partition with my winxp, just in case...
