Frag Grenades Shrapnel Effect

i have tried multiple times to try to create a shrapnel effect for frag grenades and frag mines and everything i tried did not work. i have given up on trying to create that effect. if you wish to try your hand at it i can provide images of the scripts i tried to use. even the OnFire script in new vegas did not work well with the effect. the grenade would be thrown and land but the explosion would not follow the grenade and would explode where the player was standing when the grenade was first thrown, that and the shrapnel effect did not appear at the explosion. this may be due to the grenade having a projectile node i attached which is what i tried to use for shrapnel effects. it works perfect for the barrels and canisters mod i made.. i even tried scripting the grenade to place a tiny canister at the grenade project 1 second before the grenade explodes, hoping the tiny canister would explode with the grenade and the canister having the shrapnel projectile node. however this script failed as well. as everytime i threw the grenade, the placeatme script would not run. the canister did not appear when the grenade was about to explode. i tried canisters of multiple sizes. still nothing i tried has worked and i even went as far as spending an hour going through the scripts fallout 3 script extender adds and still i have not found a script that will work for frag grenades to have shrapnel pellets when they explode. if you want to try to create it i wish you goodluck and i will offer my help if you need it.
