The best Walking Dead Mod.

I'm gonna start this thread off by saying that I am in no way a Modder, I have absolutely no idea how to even begin making a Mod for Fallout New Vegas or any game at all. This is an idea that I've had floating around in my big ol' head for some time now. Stay with me, I think this is a good idea.

So we all know of The Walking Dead, the comic turned TV show turned game, etc. Those that watch the show know the general plot. A group of people banding together to survive the Zombie Apocalypse, which has turned their world into something not dissimilar to the world of Fallout, except the only creatures out there to worry about are the Walkers.

I find it hard to believe that nobody has made this into a Mod yet. Fallout New Vegas is PERFECT for this. Think about it.

  • Vast areas to work with
  • Most of the locations in the show can be found in the Mojave (I'll get to this in a bit)
  • Ghouls are your Walkers (I know theres a Mod out there to have them walk slowly too)
  • From what I'm assuming, easy enough to create NPC characters/companions that could stand in as the characters from the show.

First things first, is locations. I know what you're thinking. The landscape is different. Just forget about that for a second.

Season 1 of The Walking Dead takes place outside of Atlanta, a major city, for the most part. Rick does end up in Atlanta a few times for various reasons. The locations for this are easy.

Atlanta = New Vegas Strip. Sure its not as dense as Atlanta and its all Casino's, but its the closest we have to a city. I guess Freeside could also work too.

Outside of Atlanta = anywhere a few miles away from the New Vegas Strip/Freeside, just far enough away so you can see it in the distance. This is where you could have your camp, there are objects in the game to faithfully recreate their camp, cars, RV's, etc.

CDC = Helios One or other equivalent large building in the Mojave, make your own even, if you wish. Plenty of building Mods out there that could be used. Doesn't have to be demolished like in the show, as I know thats a bit out of the Fallout Engines capacity.

Season 2 of The Walking Dead takes place firstly on a Highway, and then on Hershels Farm.

Highway = There are literally dozens of different areas for this to work, but one close to some kind of Farm would be preferential, to save on walking time. I know there are farms close to major highways in the Mojave, the names I don't remember off the top of my head.

Hershels Farm = Any of the aforementioned farms, again, preferably close to the Highway.

Assorted stores and such can be added via other mods.

Season 3 of The Walking Dead takes place predominantly inside the Prison they find, and in Woodbury.

Prison = NCRCF. This is perfect for this. It has walls, a few buildings, and would be amazing to defend from Walkers. It has Towers too. Perfect.

Woodbury = Westside, or something to that equivalent. A small settlement, basically, is what I'm getting at, but something that has walls, much like Woodbury.

This is a Mod that can continually be updated as time goes on. As the show progresses, more quests, characters, weapons, locations, etc, can be added. You could even branch off into the Comics which are miles ahead of the show.

This Mod is something that has the potential to be incredible! But it needs to be done right. I would prefer that the top mod authors in the community where to see this, but I have no influence on that. I would love for this to have full voice acting. I can contribute to this, sourcing people to record some dialogue, even recording some myself.

This is something I've wanted done for a while now, ever since I found AlChestBreach on Youtube and his Mod Reviews for FNV. The world of Fallout is perfect for this. VATS can assure headshots are the best way to take out Walkers, the locations in the Mojave are close to exactly what they are in the show.

Anyway, I think I've given enough information for now. I'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas and suggestions for what to add to this Mod idea or how to go about beginning to make it. Would love for some feedback from actual Modders who can tell me if something like this is actually doable.

This is do-able just really hard. If I was you I'd send your idea to the people who made the Rockwell series. Also something to add would be some kind of mass companion control system similar to Project Brazil. The mod team of Project Brazil could do this and better then what you want too. Its just if they want to ya know?

That my friend is a TON of work your requesting, the sheer amount of work for decent companions and voice work alone is very demanding. To add onto to that all the quests your wanting and scripted events would be a nice amount of work too.

YOU (or anyone wanting such a large mod) could start work on the mod, start by doing the landscape and building work that is something a newbie can easily get into to get their feet wet in modding. I highly suggest you crack open Geck yourself to get a mod of this size started, its much more likely to get done if you start yourselves. :)
