BossDweebe
And here I was obout to get this game. Second thoughts now. Far Cry was one of my all time favourites. Smart AI - especially for it's time.Great graphics, and a number of missions that could be played from so manydifferent approaches. What don't I like about FC2 ? From what I've read - Re spawning enemy = tedium.Less colour. Too many recent games are sepia toned = smog.Useless stealth - that I would definitely hate.AI. - Sounds a bit like Crysis. Made by Crytek alright, but if you use a sniper rifle successfully in that game the AI, often as not, looks the other way. Their bud gets shot in the faceand they turn around and look at a cliff. Having said that. once they are on to you they can be real hardto shake. (If you don't go invisible on them). I did enjoy Crysis overall though.Dodgy story lines don't bother me - if the game play is good.If you have to "Easter egg" hunt the briefcases I don't mind I like Easter egg hunts. Like pearling in Oblivion.
AngryDespot
Being fortunate enough to be an American who has actually vacationed in Africa (Botswana and Zambia, if you must know what countries), I must say that there are parts of Africa that do look just like Far Cry 2, same colors and everything, so I'm inclined to be opposed to the enhancement of the color scheme. However, I am extremely upset at the lack of wildlife. Sure, there's Zebra, Gazelle, and Water Buffalo, but I saw far more Elephant & Giraffe than I did Water Buffalo on my trip. And where are the lions? And the hippos? And maybe one or two rhinos? Far Cry 2 NEEDS more animals desperately. From what I heard they had animal DLC planned at some point, but that all must have been blown to the wind at some point.
D_V_A
I think the thread starter is a pretentious rant.I'm not gonna start talking on each of your points of view in that order, but generally there is no FPS more realistic than Far Cry 2 - at least for the weapon mechanics , physics, even the wounds and "resurrections" if u want wide open plains just go to the borders, there are vast desert and savanna environments. also, there actually is stealth! i managed to take out a heavily guarded outpost of about 25 armed enemies, at night, with a silencer and the knife, and constantly blowing out the lamps and light bulbs every step of the way to use darkness in my benefit. they didn't see me coming and it was mad fun. I think it's colored enough, any more color and it would've looked like GTA Vice City or Super Mario Brothers. The skies are beautiful, and not all jungle environments are a green lush paradise, there actually are gutters and gravel pits and brown colors in Africa, when was the last time u've been there? I only wish FO3 was as well designed as FC2 is. there are more things I could mention, but I guess I'm not really gonna make friends this way. they're all nit picks anyway.generally, stop assuming a 10/10 game is perfect - 10/10 means GREAT, not Perfect!lower your expectations on everything and your life will improve tenfold. or start designing/creating a perfect game and prove me wrong
cacophany
generally, stop assuming a 10/10 game is perfect - 10/10 means GREAT, not Perfect!lower your expectations on everything and your life will improve tenfold. or start designing/creating a perfect game and prove me wrong Actually, that's what ten out of ten means. It MEANS perfect. Not nearly perfect, perfect. There is no higher mark then 10/10, therefore there is no room for improvement. If there is no room for improvement the game MUST be perfect. It doesn't mean everybody rates that way, but that is what it means. The rest of it I mostly agree with, having high expectations means you have further to fall if you're disappointed. However, just because maybe we don't have the experience or knowledge or even time to make a perfect game doesn't mean that we should accept sub standard games (Not saying that this game is sub standard) Game developing companies DO have the time and experience to create such a game. Or at least they should. It IS what they do after all. They are doing this commercially and have money to back it. They aren't some random gamer who's trying to make a game for the fun of it. D_V_A
but there's no such thing as perfection, it's utopia there's always room for improvement in everythingthere are plenty other 10/10 rated games who have even more flaws than FC2 not even the proudest artists can claim they've reached perfection, and no dignified magazine or reviewer can give a 10/10 to mark absolute perfection on anything...or that's how I see it. but then again my expectations and tolerance have different value than those of other people. and FC2 is very high above standards, so I don't see a reason to flame it or claim to be forced to "settle with sub-standard material" or whatever well, I can't lie, a lion or leopard would be great, but they did say they were not ready for new AI (attack) and animation (feline movement) by release deadline. it's not like they could borrow it from games like Big Game Hunterhttp://thumbnails4.imagebam.com/4569/803e4a45687726.gifhttp://thumbnails16.imagebam.com/4569/e5ad6845687889.gifhttp://thumbnails18.imagebam.com/4569/ee9f5e45687927.gifhttp://thumbnails3.imagebam.com/4569/e6ed3b45687893.gifhttp://thumbnails14.imagebam.com/4569/03dbe245687549.gifhttp://thumbnails15.imagebam.com/4569/94da1c45687515.gifhttp://thumbnails16.imagebam.com/4569/3eb4bc45687499.gifand then again, you can just play that instead too bad no DLC was developed afterwards, I admitbut it's not supposed to be a wildlife safari anyway, so I guess we can't blame them
Halororor
Uhm, a pretentious rant? What was I pretending about? Firstly, this was my opinion on why I didn't like the game. If you feel different, feel free to say so, but don't came name-calling. You just degrade yourself. Secondly, I live in Africa (yes, we do have internet and we are civilized to a degree). Let me tell you, in Africa we have wide open plains of grass, giant stretches of desert, a lush rainforest and very few mountains. All these will not be found together in a 25 km radius. Thirdly, nobody said we expected the game to be perfect (which incidentally, it isn't). We just didn't expect it to bore our socks off. Also, the game wasn't close to the image the developers sketched for us. Don't make idle promises. Fable was built on idle promises and it didn't do all that well. Making promises and not delivering means people have high expectations which then gets shattered. Not good for anybody. Fourthly, You are necroposting an old tread just to say you disagree with me. Fifthly, the version of the game I played was the first unpatched version, maybe the patches fixed some of these problems mentioned in this thread, making them irrelevant. The version I played was boring. Maybe it was a bit realistic, if you believe in falling off a cliff and then pulling a piece of wire out of your elbow. Or getting hit by a car and then removing a bullet from your kneecap. As for stealth, snipers could shoot you through a wall, some bushes and a tree from 2 kilometres away while you were sneaking. Stealth? Sixthly, if you enjoyed the game, then nobody has a problem with that. You can do so and we are glad that you do, but we didn't and as we respect your opinion we expect you to respect ours. It seems you are one of those people who don't like it if you like something and somebody else doesn't. I also suffer from that from time to time. I like the Twilight books, most other people don't. That's just tough luck for me. Don't ever result to name-calling if you get mad about something like this. Name-calling and profanities are the surest way of telling when somebody is unsure of their own opinion. Also, don't worry, I'm not mad at you and neither will I even remember this whole thing a week from now, so let's not start a senseless flame war that might result in one or both of us getting banned. Yours Truly,Halororor. Edit: Also, just remember, once you get a new game it feels as if nothing could be better than this one and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this game, but after a month or so you start realising the parts you don't like. That's why I wish reviewers will leave reviews till after a month of playing the game, that way we will get a lot more accurate reviews. I know FC2 got high reviews just about everywhere, but go check random gaming forums. A month after release the internet got flooded by people who complained about the game. A lot of the stuff on my list was things I got from other forums where people were complaining. I didn't find them all myself.
inkheart449
I do think FC2 was pathetic. Especially the multiplayer. like the farking invicibility big. I SHOT SOME SOME SOD IN THE CHEST SIX TIMES WITH A GRENADE LAUNCHER! Then what happens? He kills me in 1 shot and some OTHER sod comes along andkills HIM in one shot! Wtf is that?! katashy
I know i'll be like the only one saying this, but I really liked FC2. I'll admit, he AI was apalling and the lack of animals was annoying, but I thought it was good. The multiplayers okayish, but the map makers great. Anyway, we'ree all entitled to opinions, so no ranting on about this post, kay?
