GodofAlcohol
Is Anyone willing and able to help me with my Cigarette mod ?I have an Wearable Cigarette you can put in your mouth (treated as armor). What I need would be a new model for it, since Im using the standard FO3 cigarette01.nif (with edited positioning). It would be cool if the tip of the Cigarette could "glow" and some smoke coming from it.Dont know if its possible, but would be a real benefit for immersion. So Anyone interested? ;)
r4y30n
You know, after just having started up MGS4 again the other day, I have to agree with you, smoking in FO3 sucks! In the MGS install video Snake takes a cig out, lights it, puffs on it, taps the ash off and the cigarette actually shortens in length! All of that might be a little extreme for Fallout, but would add an incredible level of immersion. New animations and actual smoke would be really nice for starters, though. Anyways, making a cigarette glow is a simple matter of adding a glow map to the texture (never done it, but that's what I'm told); I have no idea about the smoke. A new model would definitely be great, though, if someone could whip one up. The stock cig's proportions are all off and it only has 5 or so sides. How about 10 or 15 sides with a double sized texture? The one thing about adding glow and smoke to the cig, however, is that it will always be like that whether it's being smoked or not. Shouldn't be a big deal, though, as a smoldering cig on the ground wouldn't really look out of place in many areas of the wastes.
GodofAlcohol
No one interested or does everbody think its impossible?
SpeedyB64
Glow maps are easy. Smoke would be hard. I think the problem here is that most of the talented modders are part of large projects. I could do it and I might (no guarantees) In the project I am working on there are a lot of very dark places so a glowing cigarette would be cool. neunen
ive been a happy customer of your wearable cigarette mod for a while now id be happy to help with the model and retex (i also made a glow map once back in oblivion, but i would have to refresh myself)however im mostly at a loss for the smoke... possibly if there is already a smoke effect in game, we could attach a scaled version of it to the item in GECK.... GodofAlcohol
Would be really cool. I wanted to change the model/tex of the cigarettes since I began tinkering with them ;)Unfortunately I was only able to change the Positions in NifSkope without crashing the GECK & the game.I know that theres smoke in the game already, I think some smoke animations (like smoke-tail on rockets) and a smoking ashtray, is it possible to copy the smoke and attach it in NifSkope or something like that? neunen
possibly, ill try to take a look into it if i have some time tonight, but im not too great with nifskope. im at work at the moment, but im using my lunch break to whip up a model and rough texture of the cigarette ;) i havent had much of a chance to fool with the GECK yet, but if its similar enough to the oblivion CS theres a good chance that the smoke from the ashtray could be affixed to the end of the cigarette model in nifskope, similar to when people started to make flaming swords and whatnot in oblivion. neunen
i didnt have much time to play with it last night, but i took a quick look in the GECK and in nifskope at the ashtray03smoking nif. in the GECK i noticed that there is a second entry in the model list for the ashtray called superspray01-emitter, which i am assuming is the smoke emitter, but i couldnt find any way in the GECK itself to add a second entry in the model list for an item...however fumbling around in nifskope i also found the superspray emitter, and ive read that you can copy data in nifskope from one nif to another, however i wasnt having too much success in the short time i had last night. if you know nifskope maybe take a poke at the ashtray model and see if you can figure out how to steal the emitter from it. but in the mean time ill keep looking for more info on it, and working on the model... if we still cant figure it out im sure there will be someone around these forums that could give us a hand (also it appears that super spray emitters are created in 3ds max, ill try to read some tutorials on making your own) im pretty new to all thsi stuff still :) edit:this seems to be a similar issue http://forums.gamespy.com/morrowind_cs_gen...9496/r19770268/just exchanging flame for smoke and morrowind for fallout.im starting to feel like this is more and more possible
GodofAlcohol
I already can feel the smoke ! ;)My only success in NifSkope was the positioning (that required quite a lot of time and my nerves). I tried to copy&paste from 1 nif to another for some of my planned mods, but it always resulted in a Goodbye-Assert in the GECK *g* I'm more in programming than modelling (did it once for studies, it was horrible). So if you're able to achieve it, I will praise you ;)
