exanimis
Thank you simonp92. I made the post you are referring to and I admit that I didn't do a search but instead of trying to explain or defend my post, I'll say thank you. You have helped me to better understand why people post without searching. There are things that irritate me on these forum, like sword requests. To me swords are boring and no matter what sword you have, you get bored with it and want another. People who request swords give me the impression of not being too smart, I now see that that is a prejudice that I need to overcome. People with usernames that contain devil, demon or 666 are another of my pet peeves, I get the impression that if they haven't got the imagination to come up with a decent username from the other millions who use those same "parts" then they haven't got the imagination to add anything to the game or the forum. I think from now on instead of just ignoring their posts or stewing in my own obsessions, I'll cut them a little slack.

Deleted269910User
It happens, but you also have to note that most(Not all, but a majority.) of the people actually making such requests are people new to the boards and sometimes to the basic concept of forum usage and the functions that are provided, which also vary from forum to forum. It doesn't absolve them from the responsibility of finding out about things and reading some of the pinned topics which are meant to be read before posting, but it does explain why such things do happen at times, and in this specific part of the forums relatively often. My personal opinion on the matter would be to guide them in the right direction, by giving links to the rules etc. and encouraging them to use the search function provided on the site, instead of being all mad about it and replying in a rude manner.(Trust me, likely not even half of the people making such requests know that the function exists, or don't know how to use it properly.) ~Elraine
simonp92
that sounds right .. but when i see a really basic request, it is most likely that the same person has made more than one,,. or even worse, they are requesting a mod which will take years to make.. It's ok, I didn't see this as an attack on me at all. I can understand your frustration but at the same time I have learned to think about certain posts and request in a different way. I registered with the nexus a year ago but only to be able to download certain mods. I began using the forums just a few months ago and that was about the time I made that post. I hadn't read the threads and I really had no idea how much work goes into each and every one of the mods out there. The truth, I believe, is that people read the pinned threads as a last resort. People come here with an idea and they make a request. They may read the thread about posting and requesting a mod later but I doubt many read it first. I've learned to read the pinned threads beforehand, mainly because of your answer in the above linked post. I remember how foolish I felt after reading your response and as a result, I now read forum threads thoroughly before making any posts on new forums. Deleted269910User
I agree with you about some project suggestion that would take months/years, but in those cases I try(Done that once or twice.) explaining on what would make the project unlikely to ever take off unless they are willing to take the time and learn to do it themselves. The basic requests generally fall into learning to use the search function properly and spammed topics into not reading the rules.(I think we could find several nice examples of spammed topics...) It annoys me to a great degree, to see these kind of requests/suggestions, but I still won't allow myself to make an ass out of myself in them. The thing is that situations like this have been discussed before, but there is really no true way to force everyone to read the pinned topics, or topics such as this. People too often assume that their idea is special and new/they know the rules/etc... which is something that should never be done. "Never assume anything, know the facts. If you don't know the facts, don't open your mouth."; Is a personal motto of mine, which is something I'd like lots of other people to follow also.(Note; Not referring to you, just speaking in general level.) ihateregisteringeverywhere
Things that'd take years? :D Like the diablo2 idea, eh? Such ideas always pop up :). Just let Vagrant0 handle those ;D.
simonp92
well since this topic is not pinned, i hope people will notice it.. as you says "we cant force people to read the pinned topics" but i see a lame a request as spam,, i have even see a guy request a really sexsual mod, a moderator deleted it,,then he just posted a new, even more disgusting request..which eventoually got him banned..do you think that if that guy had knewn the forums rules alittle better, he woulnt have been banned?=? Deleted269910User
I actually reported that topic and I was quoted by AS in it. Now as for a large scale project example; Horse carriages with a smallscale explanation in it by me for why it hasn't been done/won't be done. People simply don't often realize how much work things like this example take.
