I always say start with Green Mods:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/900454-do-you-guys-ever-play-fallout-like-this/?p=7224669

Read the thread. See if you're convinced that that Fallout 3 deserves given the lore and real science.

Things I like are are:

Anchorage Reinforced Infantry Mods

Personal Veritbird

Book Restoration mod (can turn ruined books into useful things)

Busworld

Female Soliders Mod (both Enclave and Talon Company)

Hard Disk Drives

Lawbringer Bounties

NoStupidCarExplosions

Brisa Companion Mod

Sydney Follower

White House Rebuilt

These are mods that don't change how the game is played. There are even better mods, but can make your game buggy, like Project Genesis. But these an start your search.

excelseeore626,

If you wish to keep in the spirit of the game (1950's Sci Fi), I would not use a lot of the mods adding greenery. My suggestion for starting would be Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition, Fellout, DarNified UI, DC Interiors, krzymar Moon, Vanishing Piles, Clean Deluxe and Enhanced Night Sky. Also, Fallout Script Extender (FOSE), Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) and Better Obilivion Sorting Software (B.O.S.S.) When you start to add more mods, you will need FO3Edit and the training manual.

Also, do not start the game with all the DLCs and mods activated. Play through the opening character creation and continue until just before you exit the vault and make a save. Exit the game and activate anything you want to add on.
