bethesda becoming a pet toy of apple and microsoft?

My major gripe about Live is that it forces you to update your game whenever one is available. Unlike the quick-updates on the 360, it could take upwards of up to 10 minutes for Live to update and patch the game on the PC...

But being an avid Xbox gamer, GFWL is fairly neat. It considers Fallout 3 a part of my gaming library along side my 360 games, which I dig. And I actively keep tabs on my Live friends and corespond frequently.

So I guess if you already have a Live account by gaming on the Xbox, I suppose GFWL is a complementary companion. But I agree that it shouldn't be a necessity to run the game. Most PC gamers don't appreciate the attempt to morph their PCs into consoles. And if I didn't already have a Live account, I too would find the whole thing irritating and useless.

actually that behavior to force users to use a special product to be installed with another costs microsoft a few billions each year in the eu (seemingly not enough yet)

as the european union has strict laws on market fairness (lol as if but anyway...)

thus bundling the internet explorer with windows is a reason to get microcrap sued year after year...

does beth really wanna risk the same fate? do they have an income like microsoft to pay the fines? or do they maybe wanna be the ones that sue microcrap?

LIVE is microsofts newest way of attempting to enforce DRM on gamers. Integrating essential software that needs to run so you can play your games. What else other than a first step towards further attempts to enforce DRM upon us.

I bought Fallout 3 legit, tyvm, but I know many who didnt.. ./shame. But still, I dont support Micro$oft trying to integrate themselves into everything.

Whenever i load up F3 now, the stupid LIVE is logged in and I have to log out. I dont even have a LIVE account and it still logs in by default upon program start, requires logout, waste of 10 seconds every time I go to test a mod i been working on

as a dial-upper I don't like that Single-player titles are more often being saddled with broadband requirements. affordable broadband isn't available everywhere & I've already had to pass up games I would've bought otherwise.

I too bought FO3 legit but I tweaked my install in accordance with this -> http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=908657 & live hasn't messed with me at all even after the 1.1 patch

Generally over the past few years, the PC gaming industry has become more and more about business and not about producing truly outstanding pieces of art (yes, I consider games art dammit! Some games are as intellectually challenging as bestselling books and crafted with a care like the art was directed by friggin' Da Vinci or Van Gogh). So to earn the big buck, some companies opt to angel themselves out to software giants like Microsoft using a business model I would categorize as "The Penetration model", where the game company basically allows the bigger company to insert whatever objects they want into the bum of the game, be it DRM or Windows Live, and gets more commercial exposure in the media in return. For instance, I have rarely seen a game advertized on the TV or billboards unless they are part of EA or Games for Windows angel-stable. So while the company gets to earn the big buck, the end-user is pestered with all sorts of useless additional software that's mandatory to install and which often is bugladen or installs "ghost software" on the PC, which tracks or prevents use of certain programs.

As for the deal with the soundtrack being available on iTunes, I don't really understand what the fuzz is about. You still see lots of CD's in the stores which contain tunes on which the copyright has long expired and are given up for free use, and people still pay for it instead of downloading them. Again it's simple business logic - don't help your customer get something for free when you can charge him for the same product.

i just deinstalled live as per vanilla windows software manager which would seem an option to any average user... i didnt check you method yet, was just trying to see in how far that behavior equals that of microsofts internet explorer implementation and in how far beth or micro could be sued if someone would become very angry :P

Ok I decided to check my system & saw that Live was installed & after confirming that FO3 wont work without it, ran the 1.1 patch again & it works (again)
