RedRyette
I'm using the mod "Zombie Apocalypse", which is no longer on the Nexus, so I had to download it manually. The zip file I downloaded came with the Zombie Apocalypse.esm file, the two .dds color/texture and normal map files, and then the zombie model for the new creatures. I've posted a link to the download site in another thread of mine that, at the moment, is a little lower than this one on the forum, but here it is again: http://www.fileplanet.com/216909/download/Fallout-3---Zombie-Apocalypse-Mod I placed the two .dds files into Steam>SteamApps>Common>Fallout3>Data>TexturesAnd I placed the model file, the NetImmerse/Gamebryo file, into Steam>SteamApps>Common>Fallout3>Data>Meshes And of course the .esm file went into the Fallout3>Data I'm pretty confident in my placing of those files, so my guess is that it has to do with ArchiveInvalidation Invalidate, which I have placed in Steam>SteamApps>Common>Fallout3 Now, I've changed it to "Activate", as it told me to do in the Zombie Apocalypse readme, but it does nothing. It does, however, give me the message "Fallout 3 is installed in your Programs Files folder, this may cause Fallout 3 to behave strangley! See readme for more details." I don't know if this actually matters, because all the readme says about that is for Windows Vista, while i'm using Windows 7. And even then, I don't know how that would have anything to do with this mod. It may be completely irrelevant. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for you time. M48A5
The warning was made before Windows 7 was released and it is relevant to Windows 7. Anything loaded in the Program Files falls under the User Access Control. What this does, it prevents any outside programs from changing anything in Program Files. At times, this is a good thing, since it helps protect your files from viruses and such. In this instance, it is interferring with the proper use of various mods that change Fallout 3. That is why it is spread all of this nexus not to install Fallout 3 in the default (Program Files) location. If you are using a mod manager, be it Fallout Mod Manager or Nexus Mod Manager, you do not need the downloaded ArchiveIncalidation Invalidated! as it is included in the mod managers. It just needs to be activated.Of course, you could have just gotten a broken file.
RedRyette
Alright, that helps a lot. Could I simply change the location of Fallout 3, then? Take it out of Program FIles? I mean, I know you said ArchiveInvalidation isn't necessary, but I've heard it's simpler to use. I'd like to stick with it. M48A5
The best way to make the change in location is to uninstall Fallout 3 and reinstall it. I think there are instructions on Steam. If you are using either of the mod managers, the standalone version is actually harder to use than the one in the mod manager. You cannot use both as they will cancel each other. Use one or the other. If you insist on using the standalone, make sure the one in the mod manager is deactivated.
RedRyette
Got it. Thank you. Before I begin this next download of F3, could you recommend a place to download it to? Would saving it to Computer (C:) be fine? Edit: well, I'm gonna go with that and be hopeful it's not a mistake! RedRyette
Actually, installing it through Steam means I have to move the entire Steam directory. I'm sure I just google that, so again, thanks for your help. Edited April 11, 2013 by RedRyette
RedRyette
Okay, I've re-installed Steam and Fallout 3. Steam is now located in C:. However, my zombies are still invisible. I've used ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, and "activated" it. They're still invisible. Edit: I forgot what you said about FOMM having Archive Invalidation, but I deleted the additional one I added, and then deactivated and reactivated the one in FOMM. Though my problem persists.
