sevencardz
I just realized what we're missing here. Create a file called SkyrimCustom.esp (creation kit not needed) and chuck that in with your SkyrimCustom.ini inside Skyrim/Data. Now you can enable/disable the entire batch of tweaks from the Skyrim Launcher Data Files menu. :D
IsharaMeradin
Yeah... but then the save files would have that listed as a dependent plugin. Not a valid option when wanting to establish base saves unaffected by any mods for testing purposes.
cubedj21
Those listed plugins in *.ess file could be easily removed with using WryeBash or ESS Edit.. there are plenty of Skyrim save game editors able to do this.. with no harm to savefile ;))Btw: for me works and always was working SkyrimCustom.ini placed in %userprofile%\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim even if my %userprofile% folder is not in Windows default state ;))
sevencardz
That's true cubed, but it sounds like Ishara is trying to get completely virgin save files which are 100% guaranteed not to be affected by anything but vanilla Skyrim itself.Do you know something we don't? Forgive me for not believing you when you say that your SkyrimCustom.ini file is working as you describe. Unless you have another setting or configuration we are not aware of, then I don't see how it could be possible.
cubedj21
yep - you're propably right... now I realise, that about a year ago I've added some system variables in Windows regarding to detection of ini files when ATTK wasn't working properly for me.. I'll try to find out what setting exactly that was...
sevencardz
I am 90% sure I know why putting the tweaks in Update.ini didn't work for you, IsharaMeradin, and it only took me 5 months to figure it out. Don't worry, I did other stuff too during that time, I swear. You need to have Update.esm listed in your plugins.txt and/or loadorder.txt found here (or similar location): C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SkyrimIt worked when you used Dawnguard.ini because that has to exist in plugins.txt or it won't load Dawnguard.esm. Update.esm is special because it doesn't need to be in plugins.txt, but it doesn't hurt to put it there. Also, you need bEnableFileSelection=1 in SkyrimPrefs.ini for it to load the Update.ini. Edited September 26, 2013 by sevencardz
IsharaMeradin
Better late than never. Except that testing it is going to be difficult. The computer that ran Skyrim died. What I have to work with is below specs and barely functions in small COC'd interiors. Oh well...
lmstearn
After reading this topic, my "waters are still muddied" regarding the use of SkyrimCustom.ini From the CK wiki: Changes to automatically created INI files are reverted by Steam when validating the local game cache. User defined INI files can be used to prevent this. Settings defined in a user defined INI file override settings in a regular INI file. Used by the gameMy Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimCustom.ini overrides Skyrim.ini My questions are: What created this file in Documents\My Games\Skyrim? From the date on mine, it looks like the CK. Changes to automatically created INI files are reverted by Steam What business has Steam with modifying SkyrimCustom.ini? MyDocuments\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimCustom.ini overrides Skyrim.ini Why is it, then, when configuring Skyrim with Launcher from the Steam menu, that Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini are modified, but not SkyrimCustom.ini? Or, if SkyrimCustom.ini is only for CK use, what does the CK wiki mean when it states: Used by the game as opposed to SkyrimEditor.ini being Used by the editor
IsharaMeradin
@Imstearn SkyrimCustom.ini is supposed to be used to house user defined values instead of modifying Skyrim.ini. I, myself, did not get it to work. Whether I used the wrong location or it was some other reason, I do not know (and that setup no longer exists so it is moot). SkyrimEditorCustom.ini is used to house user defined values instead of modifying SkyrimEditor.ini. This one does indeed work. Neither one should ever be modified or created by the game, Creation Kit or Steam.
lmstearn
Thanks for the reply, IsharaMeradin:Do you know how your SkyrimCustom.ini came into being?Mine was created recently. Was it from just running the CK, or something like "run Havok Sim"?I should have just posted to discussion page on the wiki, but next to the other posts it might appear as dumbo jumbo :ermm:
