Fallout 3 won't launch.

Don't know what the deal is. Crashes every time I try to start it.

That's my load order, and I copied the FOSE to the directory like it said too. I'm very new to modding, even though it seems pretty simple. I have no idea what I'm doing apparently.

Blindsid3d - Hello!

Crash on startup of modded Fallout 3 is almost always due to a missing master, in other words you're using an .esp without another file that it needs.

In your mod manager you can left click on each of the plugins & their Masters will be listed at the bottom.

You must have all the masters listed or else using that plugin will crash the game on start up.

For example if one of those mods require CALIBR & you do not have it the game will crash on start up.

Using a patch for a mod that you don't have is a common cause of this too.

I don't use EWE but looking at their Description page it seems you are using an incorrect plugin.

You've got:

EWE Stormfront Studios Load Order Fix.esp

That's a patch for Stormfront Studios Presents Mod, which you don't appear to have, if that's the case then that'll cause a crash on startup.

So untick & delete EWE Stormfront Studios Load Order Fix.esp.

If you still no joy, turn off your mods one at a time checking between each to see when the game stops crashing on startup. That way you can find the culprit & check it's documentation for it's requirements.

Also you're going to need a patch for FWE & MMM to work together properly.

A patch for the two can be found at FOIP:

Okay, I installed the Sharing and Caring Companions mod and now the game seems to freezing at the birthing scene at the beginning. Don't know what the deal is. Is there a patch for it that I need that I don't have?

Sounds like the Fallout 3 multi core bug.

 

Have you got a multi core computer?

Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading.

There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file.

The one you want to change is:

For XP:

My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\

For Vista & Win7:

Documents\My Games\Fallout3

The file you want will be called:

FALLOUT.ini

Open the .ini with Notepad & change this line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

& insert this line under it:

iNumHWThreads=2

Save & close your ini.

 

As to your load order, you've got a few MMM plugins you don't need:

 

Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp

Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp
Are all built into the Mart's Mutant Mod - FWE Master Release.esp patch that you have so untick & delete them.

Also, I don't use FWE so I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you use one or the other of these not both:

FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional Restore Tracers (automatics only).esp

^ Great tip. You can also get the Fallout 3 Configurator which is a gui for the ini (very useful) in which you can do the same thing by selecting the number of "Havoc threads" under the performance tab.

You're at the point where you're gonna want to get into FO3edit to make a merged patch for all the mods, and also to use master update which allows for more stability in the game thus averting future crashes and freezes.

I had the same problem after I had to have my HDD wiped and OS reinstalled. You need to remember that Fallout 3 was originally made to play through the opening scenes without the DLCs or mods. After many attempts to go past the birthing scene, I wized up and disabled the DLCs and mods. You can't use them anyway. I let everything play through to the birthday and made a hard save. At this point I reactivated my companion Brisa mod and continued through to just before exiting the vault and made another save. The save before the vault exit was so that I could start another game with going through the opening again.

Are you still having this problem? I haven't encountered this issue in a long while and I'm curious to see if we can't get your game to function so you can play from the beginning without problems.
