Do I need to completley reverse the fo4.exe to create custom F4SE plugins?

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon everybody!

N00b question here:

Do I need to completley reverse the FO4.exe and all of its dependencies to create custom F4SE plugins?

Because as far as I understand it, F4SE plugins are dlls that get dynamically loaded at a specified adress into the exe file, right?

So, in order to create those plugins, I would need to have a complete and deep understanding of the fo4.exe and how it works, right?

If so, are there any "resources" that could help with this?

(I don't mean "basic" reversing, I mean specifically for fo4, because I don't want to "re-invent the wheel" if somebody else has already worked on this ...)

That's already been done for you via F4SE's source files provided. You need experience with C++/developmental stuff like Visual Studio.

I do have some experience with C++ and VS.

(Creating simple "command line applications")
