niston
I have this: And the UV-Map: How can I add more letters in Nifskope? For example "COMMERCE ST", but I've just got 4 areas for street name letters which I could UV remap. And I don't see any way to add more in Nifskope. Halp?
Indarello
You can mark verticles of letter and copy paste them before (to the left) existing letters Edited February 20, 2021 by Indarello
niston
How do I do that? I can't select any of the vertices in Nifskope and there is no copy/paste.I suppose I could add entries to the vertex data list and manually configure them all. But then what? How'd we go from vertices to triangles that can be UV mapped? What an extremely cumbersome method to add text. All due to storage space limits on console, I suppose. DiodeLadder
Hello niston, I've quickly hacked up one for you in Blender, see the attached NIF file. Here's how : 1) Export the source nif as .obj using Nifskope2) Import it into Blender, with orientation set to Y forward, Z up3) To see the texture while editing, apply the image texture as .png file and set up the nodes to use alpha like this (The settings in the right panel should be set up for Alpha, as seen in the screenshot) : 4) It looks like Bethesda used 3 different letter mesh widths. Go into the mesh edit mode (hit Tab from layout), and you'd notice that each letters are on separate faces. You can move these, duplicate (shift + D), or just create new faces. These can be UV mapped in the "UV Editing" Tab.5) Export when editing is done, as an .obj with orientation set to Y forward, Z up, and scale set to 0.10.6) Import the .obj in OutfitStudio, uncheck Sub Index and Skinned. Export as a Nif.7) Do the copy paste stuff in Nifskope. ....Just a very quick run down of the process, but I hope this helps. Good luck with your project!
niston
Hey DiodeLadder, many thanks for the effort! I know zero about Blender (or any other 3d software) and have literally not the slightest idea how to use it, and do the things you've outlined. So, I edited the UV-Mapping in Nifskope. Unfortunately, it looks absolutely terrible with the custom texture applied: And that's the best I can make it look within 30 Minutes in Nifskope UV Editor. Horrible! Dreadful! Unacceptable! Frustration! Perhaps I can find someone who can edit the sign, so that texts for the various street names can simply be written on a dedicated texture and then UV-mapped onto a single "text area" rectangle on the signs. That'll be when I can finally make some progress on the subject and get done with the street name signage.
pepperman35
See how this works for you. NIF is setup with a decal sheet which would contain your street names. Let me know how it works in game and/or if you need any adjustments. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/images/198437 Edited February 21, 2021 by pepperman35
